I have a particular interest in working with people with relationship problems, including their relationship with their self and, with their own emotions and emotional regulation. This can manifest as social anxiety, with an underlying sense of not being good enough or being odd/not fitting in with other people and society’s expectations. If you struggle with your own identity - not knowing your own likes/dislikes/values (sometimes called codependency), then get in touch. We can explore together what gets in the way of you knowing (and accepting) the real you.

The way things are now, is not the way they will always be. If I could help with one thing it would be instilling hope. As a Counselling Psychologist I have a training which has focused on both the evidence base of psychology and the supportive nature of the counselling relationship. If we were working together my initial aims would be to establish a trusting, confidential relationship, and to find out from you what you want from therapy. From there we would make a plan to address your difficulties, and work together on this in sessions, but you might also expect some between session work.

I have trained and practise as a person centred counsellor because I believe everyone has the potential to reach inside and find their own strength and resources, with a little help . There are times in all of our lives when we feel we need some extra help to cope with life events and struggles. I would like to help you through whatever it is that brings you here. Whether it is work, life events, or you're not sure what is wrong but feel something is not right, it can help to share your feelings with that impartial, non-judgemental someone, allowing you to clarify your own thoughts and helping you to see a way through.

Hello and thank you for connecting with me. Are you fed up feeling fed up? I completely understand and am here to help. I support women who have issues with confidence and self-esteem. This may be because of challenging personal relationships, family issues, difficult childhoods, domestic or childhood abuse or just the many challenges life brings. Sometimes, people may be unsure why they feel the way they do, but have a strong sense that things could be brighter. Peeling back the layers of our lives takes great courage, but change is possible, indeed inevitable, when we take that leap of faith.

I want to offer you some encouragement as you scroll through this site looking for a counsellor - it is not easy to do when you're feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, or apathetic. You're here though. You're already doing something to help yourself, or someone you care about. It's hard to know what to include in these introductions to 'sell myself', because ultimately I don't want to feel like that's what I'm doing. I want to be genuine and honest with you, and let you get to know me instead of throwing a bunch of qualifications and training at you (which I have by the way, don't worry!).

Hello! I'm a CBT therapist who has a special interest in treating anxiety and working with 'perfectionism'. Perhaps you are anxious about something specific, eg health, social situations, work-performance or, perhaps you constantly worry about 'everything & anything’ with worries jumping from one worry to another. It's easy for our thoughts to run away from us, leaving us feeling powerless & filled with fear. Find it difficult sitting with the unknown/adapting to change? I am passionate about supporting you in understanding & managing the anxiety you experience, to help reclaim inner-calm & happiness.

Are you tired of pretending everything’s fine, or fed up of not feeling heard? Maybe you’ve been blindsided by life events, become overwhelmed or need to make changes but don’t know where to start? I support people coping with change and loss, such as relationship difficulties, shifts in sexual identity, adjusting to new careers, retirement, parenthood, illness or bereavement. Life changes like these can bring up doubts and fears that shake your sense of self. You may also find that traumatic or distressing events from the past bob back up and refuse to be ignored. I can help you face things that seem too daunting to tackle alone.

Finding a therapist who you feel really "gets you" is not always easy and can take time. From personal experience I know how invaluable therapy can be when you share your vulnerabilities and receive compassion without judgement in return. Whatever is bringing you to counselling at this time in your life, I would offer you an open and honest space to share your feelings without fear of rejection. I would be privileged to help in your search for the answers that you are looking for to move forward from where you are now, and in doing so help you feel more at peace within yourself.

Hello! I am Martin and I am a qualified CBT approach counsellor. I offer 50 minute sessions either online (Saturday between 9am and 11am) or face to face at Southside Counselling and Therapy Centre in Shawlands (Mondays 9am to 12pm and Wednesday 6pm to 9pm). Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is useful for people experiencing long or short- term issues such as anxiety, depression, OCD, stress or an intertwining of all or some of these experiences. Are these the reasons you came here? If so, then perhaps I am the counsellor whom can work beside you in overcoming unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Thank you for reading my profile as I understand that considering counselling can feel challenging. My personal experience of having lived with anxiety and it's limitations has enhanced my belief in that we are all worthy of our fullest potential and that sometimes difficult life situations and experiences can hinder this process and lead us to feel off track or having lost direction. I would aim to offer you a genuine space of acceptance and understanding where you may feel connection and a level of trust to work through any past or present personal issues which you feel may be negatively impacting on your life today.

How can I find a therapist in Glasgow?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counsellors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
