I am experienced in working with anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, trauma, emotional outbursts, anger and neurodiversity.
I can help you to understand your situation. We can work together to establish any factors which are preventing your situation from changing and work towards managing your difficulties. When working with children and young people it can be more effective to use play or art based activities to allow children to express emotion and explore challenges.

I qualified as a CBT Therapist in 2009 & since then I have worked with people on a wide variety of issues including anxiety, bereavement, low self-esteem, depression, relationships, weight issues, OCD & phobias (including tokophobia, fear of pregnancy & childbirth).
Do you feel overwhelmed or anxious? Is it all getting too much at times? Do you feel stuck but don’t know how to change? It can help to have someone impartial to talk to who can help you through difficult times and give you some space to deal with whatever is causing your distress. This is where therapy can help. I believe people seek therapy because they want to make a change in their lives. This can be scary, but having felt overwhelmed and anxious at times myself, I hope to be able to offer a supportive, calm, safe environment for you to explore your issues and work towards the best solution for you.

Living with OCD can feel like being stuck in an endless cycle of doubt and fear, especially when it comes to those taboo, “unspeakable” thoughts that no one seems to talk about.
Using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), we’ll work together to face those fears, untangle the anxiety, and build the tools you need to live a life that feels more open, less burdened, and true to who you are.

You've been through therapy before, but the constant anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or lingering effects of past trauma keep finding their way back. It’s exhausting to feel like you’re constantly fighting a battle, leaving you frustrated and drained. You've learned the coping skills, but you're looking for something deeper—a path that moves beyond simply managing symptoms so you can finally feel like yourself again. If you're ready to stop just coping and start experiencing deep, lasting relief, you're in the right place.

I am a fully qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and specialise in working with clients who may be struggling with depression, any type of anxiety, (including intrusive thoughts and compulsions) low self-esteem, and addiction.
Firstly, I would like to say to you “thank you” for visiting my profile. I know how difficult it can be to seek help when feeling anxious, low, or stuck, but hopefully this can be the first step on your journey towards feeling better! I realise that many people seek counselling sessions to talk to someone in a safe environment and may not have specific goals for counselling from the outset. Just talking about anything that is distressing you and having an active listener who can offer new perspectives can help you feel so much better.

Hello and thank you for looking into my profile. It can be challenging finding the right therapist amidst a sea of warm faces and shiny profiles full of experience. However, I firmly believe that like any relationship, the therapeutic one needs to feel like a 'good fit' too. This outlook forms the ethos of my therapy practice as a counselling psychologist where I work in collaboration with a client to bring change through the healing properties of a relationship. At present, I am supporting clients to understand patterns of behaviours from early life that might be impacting adversely on contentment and relationships.

Thank you for visiting my profile. You may be looking for help with a specific issue, looking for more purpose or clarity in life, more understanding about yourself or maybe you might be confused. Sometimes choosing a therapist can feel overwhelming and despite the qualifications and experience it can be more about finding the right fit between yourself and your therapist.

With a background as a Principal Clinical Psychologist at the NHS trauma specialist service, I work with those impacted by trauma, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem and for those who are looking to make changes in their life, but aren’t sure where to start.
What if. Two words that send your mind down a well-worn path. Words and images that pop into your head at any moment and no matter how hard you try to push it away you find yourself stuck; thinking, feeling and doing the same thing over and over. Maybe it’s reliving the past, maybe it’s worrying about the future, or feeling you need to do something right now or something bad will happen. “What if” is hard to live with. But when your mind is stuck in the “what if’s” your brain is telling you there is something you need to figure out, something you need to rebalance.

Do you experience intrusive thoughts that conflict with your values and cause distress, a constant doubt over whether you have checked the door is locked, or feel a need to undertake compulsions to reduce anxiety?
I have a particular interest in treating OCD and anxiety related problems, however you do not need to have a diagnosis of any condition to benefit from therapy. We will work together in a non judgemental way using a range of tools and strategies to reduce the power of distressing thoughts.

Do you ever feel like you understand your problems but still can’t seem to change them? You’re not alone. I work with people who are tired of feeling stuck and held back by anxiety, panic, chronic stress, unresolved trauma, self-sabotaging patterns, perfectionism and feeling “not good enough” no matter what they do. I help you resolve what’s been holding you back, not just understand it.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
