People that come along to therapy may be be looking for support with difficult experiences in their life, and feel open to expanding their way of noticing and responding to their difficulties. I work with people who are open to finding more about themselves, and understanding how living in the modern world can impact our mental health. Dropping the need to please others as a priority, people can develop radical self-acceptance. I take an anti-oppressive approach to therapy. Therapy can be a source of affirmation, but also of challenge. I will challenge harmful patterns, and provide support to reduce the risk of harm.

In a society where individualism, competition and oppression of what is different are dominant, it is hard to find ways for our lives to unfold in expressive and mutually empowering relationship with fellow humans and more than human beings. The relational issues passed through generations that had a traumatic impact on our upbringing, the difficulties related to changes and challenges we encounter throughout our lives, the fear that comes with the uncertainty of an unpredictable future, can be addressed through therapy so that we can bring more joy, ease and agency into our lives.

What happened to us, doesn't have to define us. The narrative of our issues can be transformed in something different. A healing story that can give you empowerment and freedom. We can feel angry, anxious, frozen, stuck but we may not always know why. You may look for happiness or you feel you are lost. Or perhaps, you still don't know what's missing. Regardless, I understand it's important for you to know how to cope and what really matters to you. Finding and challenging your personal story, may give you the answers you are looking for. I can help with that!

I work in a way that’s person-centred, integrative, inclusive and relational. I always place your needs and values at the centre of our therapeutic work, while embracing your freedom and autonomy. I take an affirmative approach in encouraging you to bring any and all parts of your unique self; I take care to not pathologise or criticise you. I work very relationally, and I believe therapy can only be effective if there’s a strong therapeutic relationship at the heart of it. I’m interested in exploring what goes on in the therapeutic process and how this may mirror dynamics you’re experiencing in your wider life and relationships.

Conflicts often follow a familiar, repetitive pattern even though the content may change. In relationship therapy, we can identify the strategies that you're using in conflict, the needs you hope those strategies will meet, the ways in which those strategies might be counterproductive, and how you can do things differently. I offer Internal Family Systems informed therapy for partners and other pairs including siblings, friends, and family members. I welcome people in non-normative relationships such as queerplatonic relationships.

I support people who feel stuck in challenging patterns with food and body image, trapped by panic attacks, or avoid places because of anxiety. I also work in an affirmative way with LGBTQIA+ people with a range of difficulties. I offer a warm, supportive space where therapy is grounded in research and delivered in a compassionate, genuine, and human way. Our work is led by what matters to you; your experiences, values, and preferences. All of my work is trauma informed, and highlights the impact of trauma on our thinking, coping, emotions, and bodies. We make sense of 'what happened to you', rather than 'what is wrong with you'.

Hi, I'm Asher. I'm a queer therapist working online with LGBTQIA+ people across the UK, from my home near Newcastle upon Tyne. My practice is informed by lived experience of queerness, neurodiversity, disability and the mental health system. This includes personal experience of therapy that has been deeply helpful, practices that have caused harm, and many spaces in between. I’m also autistic and was diagnosed as an adult, so I have a particular interest in working with late-diagnosed, self-diagnosed and questioning non-neurotypical people.

I work with people who find themselves overthinking everything; who are overwhelmed; who avoid and shut down. I also work with people who never feel good enough, as well as those who find that their past continues to affect their lives and relationships in the here and now. I provide a non-judgemental, empathetic space to look at the core issues and build the tools needed to work through, transform, and break the cycles keeping people stuck. If you find yourself repeating the same patterns, despite maybe having tried to figure it out yourself or with help before, I'm happy to find a time to chat and see if this therapy could help.

I have particular interest in working with neurodivergent and queer clients. As a neurodivergent trans practitioner, I have personal and professional experience with many of the particular joys and challenges that come with these identities. Perhaps you want to explore issues specifically related to these identities or perhaps you just want someone who is familiar with some aspects of your context. I provide non-pathologising support to my communities knowing how often we are underserved by mainstream psychotherapy. I work with an awareness of the intersections between mental health and the sociopolitical environments we live in.

I am a queer and neurodivergent therapist looking to provide a safe, non-judgemental space for other queer, neurodivergent, and/or polyamorous people. I offer mixed-methods therapy with a CBT focus, with an adaptable approach to suit your needs. I am acutely aware of how both queerness and neurodiversity are misunderstood and misrepresented, both in the therapeutic field and more widely, and so I am passionate about creating a service that takes these issues and needs seriously, offering people the help they need in a way that works for them without fear of being judged or patronised.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
The gender of your therapist can matter, depending on your individual comfort preferences and therapeutic goals. While therapy outcomes are often driven by the therapist’s methodology and the strength of the therapeutic relationship, many people feel more at ease working with a therapist who shares or understands their gender identity, which can enhance trust and improve therapy outcomes. For clients who are non-binary or gender-diverse, working with a therapist of a similar identity may reduce the need to explain or justify their experiences and can increase the sense of being seen and understood. This dynamic may be especially important when addressing topics related to gender, sexuality, trauma, or relationships. Ultimately, what matters most is finding a therapist who is respectful and knowledgeable of your identity—regardless of their own gender.

What are the advantages of seeing a non-binary therapist?
Working with a non-binary therapist can offer unique benefits for individuals seeking support around gender identity. Therapists who personally identify as non-binary may bring both professional training and personal insight to their work, creating a therapeutic space that some clients may find more affirming and welcoming. These therapists often have specialised knowledge in areas such as gender-affirming care, gender dysphoria, and navigating family or social acceptance. They may also be particularly skilled in helping clients find additional resources, such as affirming healthcare providers or community-based supports that align with and affirm their identity.

How can I find a non-binary therapist?
The Psychology Today online directory is a helpful tool for identifying therapists who identify as non-binary. You can use filters to search by identity markers as well as by clinical specialty, therapeutic approach, insurance accepted, session costs, and languages spoken to help ensure a good fit. During an initial consultation or early sessions, consider asking about the therapist’s training in gender-affirming care, their experience with LGBTQ+ clients, and their therapeutic approach to identity-related topics. An effective therapist will be open and affirming in their responses. You can also look for credentials or continuing education in areas such as LGBTQ+ mental health, trauma-informed care, and intersectionality.
