Many things could have led you here to seek support. It could be life transitions, low mood, a constant anxious feeling or relationships are troubling. Work might feel all consuming. You might be feeling pressure from coursework or exams. Maybe you are the one everybody relies on in the family and it is exhausting: nobody realises what you are feeling inside. As a psychodynamic counsellor, I have experienced the impactful and lasting changes that can emerge from being able to tell your story at your pace, exploring how early relationships and past experiences affect us in the present.

I offer a calm, reflective space where you can explore what's happening in your life and make sense of how past experiences may still be influencing you today. My approach is psychodynamic, which means we look at the patterns that repeats - in relationships, self-talk and emotions - and begin to understand where they come from and how they can change. Therapy with me isn't about fixing who you are, but about understanding yourself more deeply so you can live with greater ease and self-awareness.

I have a particular interest in working with people with relationship problems, including their relationship with their self and, with their own emotions and emotional regulation. This can manifest as social anxiety, with an underlying sense of not being good enough or being odd/not fitting in with other people and society’s expectations. If you struggle with your own identity - not knowing your own likes/dislikes/values (sometimes called codependency), then get in touch. We can explore together what gets in the way of you knowing (and accepting) the real you.

I have trained and practise as a person centred counsellor because I believe everyone has the potential to reach inside and find their own strength and resources, with a little help . There are times in all of our lives when we feel we need some extra help to cope with life events and struggles. I would like to help you through whatever it is that brings you here. Whether it is work, life events, or you're not sure what is wrong but feel something is not right, it can help to share your feelings with that impartial, non-judgemental someone, allowing you to clarify your own thoughts and helping you to see a way through.

It's OK to not be OK... Everyone struggles sometimes, and when we are struggling, one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is to talk to someone about our struggles. My aim is to help you. I have experienced therapy from both sides of the equation and, like you, have struggled with my own difficulties. I believe that all of us have the potential to develop and become who we are supposed to be. Sometimes it takes some digging and self exploration to reach that goal, and I offer walk alongside you as you to do this.

Gestalt Therapy looks at the whole person and is holistic in its approach This means that what ever is happening in the person's life they can bring it to counselling and talk things through and work towards creative sustainable solutions and coping strategies. The family systems approach says that the family is more than the sum of its parts. When something affects one member of the group, it can have a resounding impact on every other member of the family. For that same reason, the strength and stability of the family unit can provide balance and support when one family member is experiencing problems.

Many of my clients come to therapy when their old ways of coping are no longer working — when strategies that once helped them survive now feel limiting, painful, or isolating. Often, there's a deep desire to feel more connected to others, but the first step is reconnecting with themselves. I believe those two are deeply intertwined. I often work with highly sensitive and neurodivergent individuals who are navigating a world that doesn’t always reflect their ways of being. Together, we explore how to move from simply coping to living with more agency, connection, and ease.

I am a counselling psychologist who has a broad experience in both psychology and psychotherapy. When working together I will always prioritise your individual needs. Even though I have my own style of therapy I will always make sure to collaborate with you and to be as flexible as needed so we are always on the same page when working together. I hope to create a non-judgemental, safe and hopefully very comfortable environment where you can feel heard and understood.

Do you feel like you're not in control of your own life? Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck or weighed down by past experiences that affect how you think, feel or relate to others. Perhaps you're living with anxiety, trauma, addiction or the long term impact of growing up without consistent care or safety. You might be high functioning on the outside yet struggling internally, wanting greater emotional stability, resilience, clarity and a sense of control over your life. Above all you want meaningful change; not just coping but feeling more grounded, confident and able to move forward and thrive.

If you're looking for therapy, it's likely that you're experiencing hurt and confusion around what's happening in your life. My first role as a therapist is to create a safe space through deep empathic listening, helping you to gain more and more clarity about what's going on for you. This clarity will then help you to define your goals and begin working towards achieving them, by becoming aware of your emotions, learning to work with them to figure out what you most deeply need, and then take actions to meet your needs.

I work with high functioning adults who appear capable and self assured on the outside, but feel anxious, burnt out, or not enough underneath. Many struggle with attachment anxiety, fear of rejection, people pleasing, or self doubt that shows up most strongly in relationships. You might find yourself overthinking, worrying someone will pull away, feeling deeply affected by cancelled plans, or swinging between independence and longing for closeness. You may also carry professional pressure and high expectations while quietly feeling exhausted from always holding it together.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counselling for elderly different from counselling for other age groups?
In general, counselling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialise in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counselling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counsellors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counsellors specialising in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counsellors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
