Drawing on multiple therapy models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ( CBT), Person-centred and Compassion-focused Therapy, I will adapt and work with you to help you through whatever problem you face.
We are all unique individuals, so it makes sense that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach. I aim to provide a non-judgmental and compassionate space for individuals of all flavours to work through their difficulties. Gender and sexuality may not be the reason you are seeking therapy, but I understand the significance these parts of you may play in your life. Therapy should never be a place where you feel the need to watch what you say or educate your own therapist about who you are. Therapy is time for you.

You may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or out of sync with yourself or your life. You might notice anxiety, emotional shutdown, self-criticism, or repeating patterns that don’t fully make sense yet. You’re not looking for quick fixes, but for understanding, safety, and space to reflect. You want to make sense of what you’re carrying, develop greater awareness, and respond with more choice rather than pressure or survival strategies. You value honesty, depth, and a pace that respects your nervous system and lived experience.

Are you feeling weighed down by low mood, anxiety, or trouble sleeping? Whether these feelings stem from a challenging life event, a major transition like changes in health or employment, or seem to have appeared out of nowhere, it can feel overwhelming. You may even feel stuck, unsure of how to move forward, and disconnected from the things and people that once brought joy and meaning to your life. When life feels this way, it’s easy to withdraw, which can unintentionally deepen those feelings of isolation and helplessness. But it doesn't have to stay this way!

CBT helped me break the cycles.
Depression, Anxiety and Addiction are prevalent issues which affect our mental health. Men in particular have been taught not to show 'weakness' and so we find other outlets or ways of feeling better. Alcohol, drugs/medications, anger, aggression, gambling, pornography, keeping it to ourselves, sudden outbursts, working too much ...maybe all of the above? All are perfectly normal and understandable ways of coping, because in the short term, they work! Maybe you've tried different things to feel more 'healthy' but nothing seems to stick? Maybe you're noticing cycles of behaviour causing friction with important people in your life?

This includes person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural ( CBT) and existential approaches.
As human beings, we are often both hurt and healed in relationship and I believe counselling can offer a unique space to explore that safely, with someone whose priority is to be alongside you. A space where you don’t have to worry about what to say or how your words might land. I’m a counsellor who values connection at the heart of my work. I offer a calm, supportive environment where you can feel heard, understood and accepted as you are. I’m naturally compassionate and curious and I try to meet each person with warmth, openness and respect, allowing you to move at your own pace.

I'm Malcolm; I use a third-wave cognitive approach approach to therapy.
If you have immediate issues such as anxiety or depression, we will use a mix of CBT and ACT to tackle these issues. If you have longer-lasting issues, that might feel almost impossible to change, we may also include the use of schema therapy

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors
How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
