I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over ten years experience within children and adults mental health settings.
Hello and thank you for looking into my profile. It can be challenging finding the right therapist amidst a sea of warm faces and shiny profiles full of experience. However, I firmly believe that like any relationship, the therapeutic one needs to feel like a 'good fit' too. This outlook forms the ethos of my therapy practice as a counselling psychologist where I work in collaboration with a client to bring change through the healing properties of a relationship. It is my belief that a supportive, accepting relationship allows for deeper self exploration and long-lasting change.

A free initial consultation is offered, for you to discuss concerns regarding your child , and ask any questions you may have.
I am a qualified counsellor, registered with BACP. My training specialises in supporting children and adolescents, with which I have extensive experience, having worked in both Primary and Secondary Schools for several years. I am empathic and accepting of all. No young person should have to go it alone. Every behaviour is a form of communication, often of an unmet need. When we meet that need, the behaviours can change. Early intervention through counselling support, can help the young person make sense of what is going on in their minds, bodies and lives.

Since qualifying from my Doctorate, I have worked with children , adolescents, families and adults using a range of therapeutic interventions.
Within my practice, it is imperative that all clients are aware that therapy is taken at their individual pace. Following a thorough assessment, I help clients understand their current difficulties by building a narrative of what past events have contributed to the current problem and what may be maintaining it. From this, we collaboratively create an individual treatment plan that targets the presenting problem/s using the most relevant therapeutic approach available.

I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with a background in education and in yoga/fitness teaching. Clients bring a wide variety of issues to cognitive behavioural therapy sessions, such as anxiety, depression, panic -attacks and low self-esteem, for example, and many of their goals include, learning, how to relax, breathe properly, meditate, exercise and find self-compassion. Therefore, by collaborating together and combining some of my skills with each client's goals, positive change happens. I have experience with adults, young people and children , as I counsel within school. My approach is warm, welcoming, and empathic

We all experience emotional pain; as an infant, a child , a teenager, a parent and an adult. Whether it’s in response to life events (e.g. loss, trauma, moves), transitions (e.g. to adolescents, as a parent, retirement), adjustment to ill health (e.g. cancer, chronic illness, injury) or life in general (e.g. long term low mood or anxiety). Accepting that we need help and support can be hard and daunting. Getting the right help is important and can teach you how to live a fulfilling life.

I can work with adults, young people, and children .
Sometimes we experience changes or traumas that leave us struggling with the pressures of life, relationships, work, or studies. This can affect our self-esteem, our sense of identity, and our ability to cope. This can become overwhelming and may lead us to unhelpful or harmful thoughts and behaviours. With help, we can overcome our difficulties and learn to manage our emotions more effectively. With compassion, empathy, respect, and a safe space, we feel heard, considered, and valued. By understanding our thoughts and behaviours we can feel empowered to make positive changes that can lead us to fuller and more enjoyable lives.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
