I have a particular interest in
bereavement
,
loss
, trauma and low self esteem.
Life can throw up many challenges which can cause us to feel unsettled, upset and confused. Having someone to talk with can help to untangle and make sense of the emotions that are associated with the circumstances you are facing. I place value in the therapeutic relationship and offer a safe, confidential space for you to explore whatever you are grappling with. I commit to being fully present and believe that counselling can enable you to gain greater self understanding. I love seeing clients go from struggling to thriving and accompanying them on that journey is a real privilege. I do both short and long term work.

I have a focus on
bereavement
counselling as I believe that all pain can be attributed to
loss
and
grief
over a life that was or a life that could have been.
The
loss
of people or things can bring anxiety and depression as we struggle to take care of our own needs and wellbeing. By focusing on the root of the matter, we can make some lasting and meaningful changes. The way we talk to others and ourselves is a window to what’s going on inside. My counselling space, ‘A Space For’, is a place for you to explore what that is. We can be too easily swept up in the day-to-day and in our long ingrained habits and beliefs that it takes dedicated time and focus to unravel what really is causing us pain, the grudges and guilt.

A warm welcome to you. Challenges that you might be facing right now, may seem small on the outside but can actually be very big on the inside which may be stopping you from enjoying and living life to the full. You can't change the past but you can change the influence that the past is having on you. I will offer you a safe, private and peaceful space to talk about the difficulties you are facing, to reflect on past experiences that may have left you anxious or depressed, and to work alongside you in making the changes that you feel you need. bereavement
.
Hello, my name is Lee and whatever has brought you here - welcome. I am a Psychotherapist, I initially trained and specialised in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). However, I use an integrative approach (in other words I use a ‘whatever works best’ type method). I wanted to create a style and brand of therapy that is all about keeping things simple. People often experience very complex problems so let’s not overcomplicate something that’s already difficult.

Why do we get stuck in undesirable feelings, thoughts & behaviours? I believe that humans are naturally wired to survive, but sometimes we get stuck in unhelpful survival patterns that we cannot overcome, even though we try very hard to do so! Relationships, adverse childhood experiences, abuse, trauma,
loss
, ill-health and life circumstances can contribute to unhelpful patterns and ways of being. We are all unique individuals, and what brings us to counselling is very personal to us. Often we self-blame & self-shame and this perpetuates our distress. Being truly heard and offering individual ways to heal underpins my work.

Are you tired of pretending everything’s fine or fed up of not feeling heard? Maybe you’ve been blindsided by life events, feel overwhelmed and need to make changes but don’t know where to start? I support people coping with change and
loss
, such as relationship difficulties, shifts in sexual identity, new careers, retirement, parenthood, illness or
bereavement
. Life changes like these can bring up doubts and fears that shake your sense of self. You may also find that traumatic or distressing events from the past push their way up and refuse to be ignored. I can help you face things that seem too daunting to tackle alone.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my page. i am an experienced counsellor who works with a wide range of presenting issues. The work we do together can be looking at events in your past that have impacted upon you and stay with you now, or the present and what is happening in your life that is making life difficult. Coping and adjusting to
loss
in any situation can be really tough, supporting you and offering you strategies can make the experience feel manageable Sometimes how we think does not often support or help us, therapy can explore and challenge this so we become more supportive of ourselves and rewrite the script.

Welcome. Whatever is going on for you, whatever it is that you would like to be different – I offer a supportive relationship to help you find a deeper understanding and acceptance about yourself and what you are experiencing. This process can help illicit the change needed for more authentic and peaceful living. I believe in the potential - and, at some level - knowing in each of us to move towards what we need in life - but stuff gets in the way, we push down on this knowing in order to protect ourselves, and this causes suffering. Counselling can be helpful to us as we, compassionately, find our way back/forward to ourselves.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
