You might come with different problems, be it anxiety , pain, sadness, loss of family and friends. You also might have an old wound that doesn’t seem to heal. Imagine if you didn't discuss your worries, how would your life be? Then imagine, If someone said "aha, I get you!", then how do you think your life would be? You might wander back and forth for years thinking you don't need therapy, because others didn't. If you're still in distress, why should YOU do the same? My focus is to help you re-connect with loved ones again and equip you with long-lasting therapeutic skills.

I work with people experiencing a wide range of mental health problems which are creating issues in their lives. These include different types of anxiety , low or fluctuating mood, worry and rumination, stress, problems in relationships with others and issues resulting from historic or more recent trauma. Focus is given to understanding the nature and origins of problems and how change can occur. Currently, as a result of being unable to provide face to face therapy due to covid-19, I am working remotely via secure video and/or telephone conferencing.

Hello, and thanks for looking at my profile. I’m an accredited therapist with over 15 years experience, and wholly comfortable in dealing with a range of issues, from trauma to confidence, to abuse to anxiety . I’ve been described by former clients as friendly, easy to talk to and empathic. For me, the most important element in therapy is whether you feel you can trust me - and I know this is not always easy. You’ve likely been hurt and perhaps a little wary and weary of people. I’m not going to fix you, I can’t! Though the good news is, by working collaboratively, you absolutely can fix you, of that I have no doubt.

Hello, my name is Hannah. Sometimes life gets messy and overwhelming. Stress, work, relationship issues, grief, loss, health issues, anxiety , feeling low are things we can all experience at times. Sometimes those around us don’t offer us the support we need, or we worry we would burden them or be judged by them if we opened up about our problems. Counselling can be a way of helping us through life’s twists and turns.

The loss of people or things can bring anxiety and depression as we struggle to take care of our own needs and wellbeing. By focusing on the root of the matter, we can make some lasting and meaningful changes. The way we talk to others and ourselves is a window to what’s going on inside. My counselling space, ‘A Space For’, is a place for you to explore what that is. We can be too easily swept up in the day-to-day and in our long ingrained habits and beliefs that it takes dedicated time and focus to unravel what really is causing us pain, the grudges and guilt.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
