I have experience working with anxiety, panic attacks, self harm, suicidal thoughts, depression, boundaries, pregnancy crisis and loss, post abortion, relational issues, trauma and other areas.
I don’t know if you have ever had the opportunity to share your story where someone really listens. I mean really listens, wanting to know you, your story, your ups and downs. Where nothing is off limits. Space to speak what maybe you’ve never spoken before. Sitting in the counsellee seat is not always easy and opening up to someone you do not know can be daunting. I know that taking that first step requires courage and I would love to walk with you on your journey.

I have supported people with PTSD/CPTSD, who self-harm or are suicidal .
I am an experienced Counsellor and can offer a safe and confidential space to help you look at what it is that is making life difficult. We all at times struggle to know how to manage and cope with how we feel and whilst we know it's important to look after our physical health, we also need to take care of our hearts and minds, I see my role as one of helping you make sense of what might be causing you to feel depressed, anxious, even that life feels too much, your relationships might be affected or going to work is just too hard, you might know the cause and just need to be heard and supported to see a way forward.

Hi there, my name is Ana and I'm a psychodynamic counsellor specialising working with those affected by parental narcissism and existential issues. If you feel stuck in a loop or unable to find joy in life, I can offer my curiosity, empathy, and insights to help you find meaning in your experience. To do this, I will often draw on my background in psychology and philosophy, as well as psychodynamic therapy which looks at the unconscious processes between us and find links between what you're experiencing in the present and your early childhood and family experiences. On top of this, I use a systemic lens when working with families.

Sometimes to understand ourselves and our situations better, we need someone else to hear and understand us, to be alongside us on our journey and see the broader view. Therapy is a safe confidential and open space to explore all of who we are. It is a relationship that brings compassionate curiosity to our experience and enables us to harness more of ourselves in our lives and celebrate our uniqueness. We are each an expert on our own lives but sometimes we need support to make sense of it, find our way back, forward or sideways; to become aware of what is and what was. Whatever your reasons for being here, you are very welcome. I provide a very safe and confidential space to people from ALL walks of life. Whatever difficulties you are experiencing I can help you to gain insight into why they exist and persist. Psychodynamic therapy helps you to bring that which is unconscious into conscious awareness which helps you to understand and resolve internal conflicts which cause suffering. These internal conflicts manifest as, for example, anxiety, depression and self-destructive behaviours, particularly in relationship with others. Psychodynamic therapy is effective in enabling life long change.

Are you struggling with anxiety or depression? Unhappy, experiencing relationship problems, feeling alone or held back by trauma or bereavement? Are you seeking counselling for a child or young person? Therapy can be short term, 4-6 sessions and we can work together in a highly focused way, including exploring strategies if you wish to. For some, longer term therapy is preferred. In this we can explore issues in greater depth and you can be supported to make lasting changes in your life. For children, therapy happens in the midst of play and craft activities.

The core conditions of Therapy are congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathy. In other words, a genuine space to be yourself and have someone understand what you are experiencing. Within therapy, you should experience a safe place to express exactly what you are feeling and not be judged upon those feelings. Therapy should be what you need it to be for you.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
