Hello there, thanks for checking me out. Individuals: Life’s toll can leave us with hurts and regrets. Sometimes we end up so wounded everything loses its shine. Life becomes colourless. We struggle with trauma, anxiety or low mood. By creating a constructive conversation with me, we can work towards healing. Couples: I use emotionally focused therapy to help create a connection between spouses and partners. I explore hurtful cycles of interaction to change them. Together we develop positive cycles to heal the relationship. Families: I specialise in young adults/students and their parents; blended families; alienation; child contact

Therapy is a gift--giving yourself permission to receive, to be heard, and to learn healthy and adaptive ways to be in relationship to self and others. Helping identify and transmute beliefs that no longer serve... from "I'm not good enough" to "I am worthy"; moving from fear to love and acceptance. A space to feel and understand your emotions, and let go. Offering a wholistic, integrative, and person-centered approach to wellness and empowerment while supporting you to find balance, hold boundaries, explore spirituality , and connect to your authentic self--moving out of your head and grounding into your heart, body, and soul.

Psychoanalysis or psychoanalytic psychotherapy is an open-ended conversation with no agenda and no time limit (i.e. number of sessions). The practice (Greek: Praxis) of psychoanalysis attends to the person who comes for analysis, to listen and witness their concerns, and to facilitate, if possible some kind of loosening of the strictures than bind and contort experience. I work with people with different needs under the rubric of mental distress.

I know how overwhelming it can feel trying to find a therapist who is right for you. It is sometimes hard to get a feel for what kind of person a therapist really is beyond their qualifications and training... which is kind of important if you are going to be vulnerable with them! Let me show you a little of who I am so you can see if we are a good match. My name is Rose. Before I began facilitating healing for others, I spent years dedicated to my own healing. I experienced severe & complex trauma as a child and teenager that resulted in various forms of dis-ease in my adult life.I tried talking therapies and although I could under

For Christians I offer a confidential, listening space to assist with any personal issues when it may be difficult to discuss with someone in your church. We can integrate Christianity into the therapy and/or explore why you might have difficulty in relating to God and other people. Issues of self-worth and identity in relation to how God made us can also be explored. For non-Christians, I respect individual views and tailor therapy to individual needs.

It is a courageous step to reach out to a therapist and, in recognition of this, I have wholeheartedly devoted 30 years of my life to helping people create real and lasting change. I have completed a vast amount of psychological training and am guided by extensive experience in really hearing the parts of my clients’ experience which are keeping them ‘stuck’ or are barriers to happiness. I help people to understand crucial scientific findings about how the brain affects our happiness and I use the most effective techniques to help clients become liberated from unhelpful repetitive behaviours or thought patterns.

Often we don’t feel able to live as we would like to. We might feel stuck or anxious. We might have experiences that feel hard to cope with, think about or process. I offer accepting and collaborative therapy to explore what is going on for you, whatever that might be, and to help you find a way through. You may be looking for a few sessions to make sense of things, or a chance to work through things at more depth. Please note that, to minimise conflicts of interest, I am unable to work privately with current students at the University of Edinburgh, as I also work in the Student Counselling Service there.

Are you struggling with anxiety or depression? Unhappy, experiencing relationship problems, feeling alone or held back by trauma or bereavement? Are you seeking counselling for a child or young person? Therapy can be short term, 4-6 sessions and we can work together in a highly focused way, including exploring strategies if you wish to. For some, longer term therapy is preferred. In this we can explore issues in greater depth and you can be supported to make lasting changes in your life. For children, therapy happens in the midst of play and craft activities.

Hi there, my name is Ana and I'm a psychodynamic counsellor specialising working with those affected by parental narcissism and existential issues. If you feel stuck in a loop or unable to find joy in life, I can offer my curiosity, empathy, and insights to help you find meaning in your experience. To do this, I will often draw on my background in psychology and philosophy, as well as psychodynamic therapy which looks at the unconscious processes between us and find links between what you're experiencing in the present and your early childhood and family experiences. On top of this, I use a systemic lens when working with families.

You may be feeling hurt, sad, anxious, angry, nervous, ashamed or lonely. Or a combination of these. Maybe you lack confidence or self esteem. Maybe your social or intimate relationships are causing you stress. Maybe you lack self-care. Maybe, quite simply, life could be better. Importantly, neither searching the internet nor self help books have been enough, and you need someone to talk to. Someone who will listen to you without judgement, and who will acknowledge and help you process your sometimes overwhelming feelings. Equally, you may be looking for a therapist to work with by way of self development.

Hello, I'm Gemma (and this is my guinea pig Lucy for added cute!) Thanks for clicking on my profile. Counselling may be useful to you if you are experiencing some emotional upset or change. Maybe you are going through an immediate crisis, or have a sense of something not being quite right which is beginning to affect your day to day life. Together we can explore what's happening for you right now, consider how the past may be impacting your current reality and then start to imagine how you want your future to look.

Spirituality Counsellors

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviours. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
