I work with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma or schizophrenia and are struggling in relationships and are not feeling understood.
Do you struggle to find words for your thoughts, feelings and experiences? Do you feel anxious or have low mood? Do you feel stuck or confused by events, experiences or relationships in your life? Do you feel a need to change something but you are not sure what? Do you want to feel more confident and have greater self esteem? I have over 20 years experience of building therapeutic relationships with people with enduring mental health issues, adults with learning disabilities and children and young people. I am interested in the connection between mental health and creativity, and how art making can support our journey together.

My Psychotherapy practice experience relates to an insight into the human psyche in how unconscious processes impact and affect client's lived experience. Working through core internal and external relationships, transformative insight guides the therapeutic process to establish a greater sense of Self toward personal growth. My clients respond to a deeper way of working with the unconscious dimensions of their psyche, using dreams, difference and creativity to awaken consciousness and facilitate desired psychological outcomes toward change.

I work in collaboration with my clients to find what they would like to bring into the therapy room and have a particular interest in personal identities and how my clients wish to be seen and accepted in the world. This includes identities around chronic illness and disability, as well as around gender, sexuality and relationship diversity. I do not work as a blank mirror but instead use my knowledge and training to create a dialogue between me and my clients.

Music therapy provides a space for self-expression in your own way and time. It is an alternative to talking therapies, especially where finding words may be difficult or overwhelming. Creating music together can be helpful to process and make sense of difficult transitions. You do not need any musical experience to engage in music therapy, and this can be a mixture of music and talking in sessions. I am non-judgemental in my approach, and I allow the client to lead their sessions in their own way and at their own pace. Music therapy can also create a safe and creative space to process a recent autism/ADHD diagnosis.

Seeking support through counselling can be a difficult first step on a journey to better mental health, but the process can be truly life-changing. My aim is to create a safe, non judgemental, compassionate space in which to explore your problems, enabling you to gain a better understanding of your difficulties. I believe it is important to look at the roof of your issues to try and gain the necessary insight to help change your mindset or any patterns of behaviour that are troubling you.

Psychoanalysis or psychoanalytic psychotherapy is an open-ended conversation with no agenda and no time limit (i.e. number of sessions). The practice (Greek: Praxis) of psychoanalysis attends to the person who comes for analysis, to listen and witness their concerns, and to facilitate, if possible some kind of loosening of the strictures than bind and contort experience. I work with people with different needs under the rubric of mental distress.

My mode of therapy is psychodynamic, based on Freudian psychoanalysis, where a basic, central, premise was his view of the mind. Freud’s belief intimated that some of what we experience on a day-to-day basis e.g. emotions, beliefs and impulses; takes place in the unconscious and is not available to the conscious mind. Similarly, my belief, is that the unconscious mind governs behaviour to a much greater degree than people suspect and my therapy involves deep exploration of clients’ past to access, and understand, the root cause of their problems. The emphasis of psychodynamic therapy is on the trust between client and therapist.

I have a gentle manner but I am able to understand problems. I often work with things other therapists have not been able to help completely and have therapeutic solutions to the most challenging issues. I help you understand how the past impacted you. I use a structured approach so you create therapeutic goals. TRAUMA therapy can be very helpful. RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING -both partners spend time express their point of view and a joint agreement on how to progress the therapy. I usually set “homework” for both individuals and couples to work on between sessions. DISCOUNTS for block bookings of 5 get 6th session review free.

Looking for a therapist can be a daunting experience, especially if things are tough for you right now, but you have taken the first step! I have experienced many times, both as a counsellor and personally in therapy, how people begin to feel less burdened and overwhelmed in their life when they feel really heard and accepted without judgement or criticism. I believe that the counselling relationship is a collaborative and dynamic process, and I am always receptive to feedback, as it can shape the dynamic between us. I feel that therapy can be proactive, and not just reactive. I have no expectations on what we speak about.

Do you find yourself struggling to juggle daily life and navigate relationships? Do you often feel disconnected from yourself and others? Perhaps, there are parts of yourself where finding acceptance and a sense of belonging is particularly challenging. Amidst emotions suddenly becoming too difficult to manage and self-limiting beliefs, you may be feeling stuck, wondering “why is this happening to me?”. As a counselling psychologist, I understand how these and other problems are a natural response, often resulting from difficult life circumstances, which might pose additional challenges on trusting yourself and others.

What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?

The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?

People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?

Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?

It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
