Many people have had an experience of therapy in the past and it has not produced the results they wanted. This in part can be due to the person going to see a therapist who is trained in one specific therapeutic modality (approach), who then tries to make the client fit that one approach. Collaboratively, we will work together to help you feel better, happier, more in control and confident in who you are as a person. As you begin to understand yourself and why you do things more, this will open you up to greater awareness in all parts of your life; home, work and relationships.

Facing the day with a niggling sense of confusion, unease or sadness will affect everything around you, it limits your ability to engage and really be in the moment. These feelings may be linked to a past event in your life, a situation you are currently in or you may be unclear as to why you feel this way. What is important is that at the centre is you. Often, we know we need to prioritise ourselves better, but maybe we do not know how to, we are unsure what we need and are hesitant to ask for this. Are you eager to find out why you respond the way you do? Why you think the way you do at times?

When it comes to therapy, I don’t believe there is an ideal client. As humans we all need help sometimes, whether it’s because we’re feeling anxious or sad, we have been through a scary or traumatic event, or we’re trying to understand ourselves better. I work with clients to provide a compassion and person centred approach using a combination of EMDR, Compassion Focussed and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies.
I also conduct ADHD assessment and diagnosis for adults.

Ideally, you’ll feel open to hearing what psychology can do for you. You’ll feel able to speak about what life’s like for you and where you want to get to. I won’t ask you to disclose all that’s happened to you but I’ll be able to hear what you feel ready to share. As well as trying to fix things, we’ll look to see your positives and build on them. Your instincts will tell you if I’m the right person for you and whether you feel ready to embark upon a change process.

There is no question life is stressful - but the good news is that help is available. You do not have to struggle alone. We all need a neutral, non-judgmental person to talk things through with. I believe that knowing you are not alone, and having that safe place to express your fears, or uncover how the past influences you today, is essential for mental health.

I help people reclaim their lives when physical health and mental well-being collide. As a Clinical Psychologist (DClinPsy) with NHS and private experience, I specialize in the "stuck" places-navigating diagnoses, health-related trauma and life transitions. Whether you are adjusting to a new diagnosis or managing long-term physical conditions, I offer a high-level, collaborative space to build resilience. I integrate evidence-based tools like ACT, DBT and CBT to help you move from feeling overwhelmed to regaining your sense of agency and autonomy. You don't have to navigate this complexity alone.

I'm an EMDR therapist (EMDRIA certified) and a Level 1 Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher, in addition to my doctoral training in forensic psychology.
If small things send you spiralling, you feel disconnected from yourself, or you've been carrying something heavy for as long as you can remember — these are experiences I work with often. I'm Dr Larissa Johnson, a Forensic Psychologist specialising in trauma, complex PTSD, and personality difficulties. I work with adults who carry the weight of difficult histories.
Maybe you're reliving painful memories, caught in cycles of shame or self-criticism, or feel that your emotions are too much. Maybe you've been told your difficulties are "complex" without ever feeling truly understood. If this resonates, I'd love to hear from you.

How does forensic psychology work?
Forensic psychology works by providing those in the legal system with expert information about psychology and behaviour that they wouldn’t otherwise have. Forensic psychologists do this through a range of services—conducting psychological assessments for court cases, assisting police officers with investigations, providing expert opinion, helping with mediation, and providing mental health care to victims or perpetrators of crimes.
Can a forensic psychologist help with child custody cases?
Yes. In the event that it’s needed, an attorney or judge may appoint a forensic psychologist to provide an assessment and recommendation. This process involves multiple interviews with the child, the parent (or parents), and sometimes others. The psychologist assesses the parent’s mental health, strengths and weaknesses, and parenting practices to understand what’s in the child’s best interest. They then complete a report with recommendations based on their assessment.
Do forensic psychologists help solve crimes?
In some cases they do. For example, criminal profiling involves collaborating with law enforcement officers to construct a profile of a perpetrator based on psychology, personality, and behaviour as suggested by the crime in order to focus the investigation. They may also offer expert input on subjects related to a case such as deception, false confessions, and the reliability of testimony based on eyewitness accounts.
How long do people typically work with a forensic psychologist?
The length of time an individual works with a forensic psychologist depends on the relevant service. For example, if a forensic psychologist is conducting a psychological assessment for a court case, this may take one to two sessions to complete (although they can be more extensive). If the forensic psychologist is providing therapy to someone accused or convicted of a crime, treatment may last for several months or more.
