I usually begin with an online face-to-face consultation for me and parent(s) to talk about what's been going on, and what the hopes and aims of the whole
family
are.
Children and teenagers can benefit from counselling therapies, and studies show that these are hugely effective, both in the short and long term. For older kids and teens, talking therapy can provide a unique space to safely explore what's going on to make them sad, angry, or anxious. For younger children, using play and art, as well as talking therapy, can help them begin to piece together things that might be difficult for them. Life doesn't always go according to plan, and sometimes things happen that no one is prepared for - an accident, a traumatic experience, a situation no one could have foreseen happening.

Hi there, my name is Ana and I'm a psychodynamic therapist with a special interest and experience in working with those affected by existential issues and a Masters thesis in working with adult children of parents with narcissistic traits. In my client work, I draw on my background in psychology, philosophy and systemic therapy, as well as psychodynamic therapy and attachment theory which looks at the unconscious relational processes between us and finds links between what you're experiencing in the present and your early childhood and
family
experiences.

My specialist training in working with relationship dynamics, attachment disorders, adult sexuality and
family
systems creates a space for deeper exploration and improved communication.
Difficulties and stress in the relationships that matter most to you can be a source of distress, anxiety, frustration or despair. When all your efforts to make things better still haven't worked, maybe it's time to think about trying a different approach. Working with a experienced relationship counsellor can give you the time and space to explore what is troubling you. I work with individual adults and couples from all backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities to help them gain insight and fresh perspectives on life, relationships, and other issues that cause distress.

I also understand the pressure related to
family
, gender, ethnicity, race,LGBTQ+ difference, social class, and religion.
I get that it’s not easy to ask for support and admit to vulnerability. I view therapy as as a journey of discovery, healing and growth. Through 'experiential learning' and 'dialogue' we will work with your ‘embodied awareness’ of ‘how’ you are in relationships, ‘how’ you make choices and ‘how’ you co-create your world. We will look at where you feel 'stuck' and what seems 'difficult'; we will 'stay with' the feelings and complexity that may unfold. I believe change happens organically when we have enough 'support', fully acknowledge the situation we are in, and commit to work.If that resonates with you, please contact me.

I was the first to join the Association for
Family Therapy

Hello there, thanks for checking me out. Individuals: Life’s toll can leave us with hurts and regrets. Sometimes we end up so wounded everything loses its shine. Life becomes colourless. We struggle with trauma, anxiety or low mood. By creating a constructive conversation with me, we can work towards healing. Couples: I use emotionally focused therapy to help create a connection between spouses and partners. I explore hurtful cycles of interaction to change them. Together we develop positive cycles to heal the relationship. Families: I specialise in young adults/students and their parents; blended families; alienation; child contact

Living with difficult
family
or work issues, loss, worry, prejudice, lack of autonomy can leave you feeling, stuck, shut down, drained, disconnected, depressed, anxious or alone. Did your childhood environment make you feel unsafe, unseen or misunderstood. Are you consumed by the expectations of others and have lost touch with who you really are. Maybe you tend to put others first, perhaps jump into romantic relationships too quickly and deeply; or have decided you are better off by yourself, yet part of you longs for connection. Maybe the values or beliefs of your
family
or culture are at odds with your authentic identity.

When we are trying to make sense of our situation or understand ourselves, we may feel we need someone to hear us. It could be something in particular that is causing you difficulties such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self confidence, bereavement or relationship issues (
family
, personal or work). Or it can be a feeling of uncertainty, something about how you are feeling isn't quite right. We are all part of an interconnected world influenced by and influencing our relationships and situations. For this reason I give attention to what is happening now, your personal history, life situation and narrative.

Life can be very challenging at times leading to anxious feelings, low self esteem and depression. Whether this is down to some recent happening with
family
, work, friends other relationships or life transitions. Or something else that is worrying you. I offer a judgement-free space with emotional support away from everyday life and this might be just what you need right now. Allowing yourself some time and opportunity to process the situation while considering your thoughts and feelings at the moment. If change is what you need, counselling is a great start.

I have had the experience living in quite a big blended
family
, as well as witnessing some of the most important relationships break and then form into something new.
Hi, I'm Maya Tomse. I'm a Psychologist, a Psychotherapist and a Counsellor. I work with couples and individuals, online. I specialise in relationships, and troubles specific to transitions we go through, especially complex life transitions. My interest in transitions and relationships stems from my own personal experiences. I was born in Yugoslavia, a country that got torn apart by war when I was around 10 years old. Later, throughout my life I've lived and worked in many different countries and at present hold 3 different citizenships.

Relationship counselling - assess communication, differing
family
and cultural backgrounds, create focus of discussion and assess progress.
I have a gentle manner but I am able to understand problems. I often work with things other therapists have not been able to help completely and have therapeutic solutions to the most challenging issues. I help you understand how the past impacted you. I use a structured approach so you create therapeutic goals which we work towards during the sessions. RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING involves having both partners spending time to express their point of view and a joint agreement on how to progress the therapy. I usually set “homework” for both individuals and couples to work on between sessions. DISCOUNTS available for block bookings

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
