I have a special interest in issues such as bereavement, loneliness, anxiety, low self-esteem and depression .
Being human can be complicated, there are times we all struggle to make sense of how we’re living. Sometimes nothing seems to bring us any sense of joy, meaning or simply contentment anymore. Talking to a counsellor might seem intimidating or downright terrifying but it’s honestly true that talking can make a huge difference and help make those negative or even desperate times easier to manage. I will provide you with a safe, non-judgemental space in which you can share any problems or troubling thoughts you might have. Together we will work through these in order that you can find resolution and happiness in your life.

I provide general individual counselling and some of my specialties include working with depression , anxiety, self-esteem, past trauma, eating disorders, loss and bereavement.
Each one of us struggles in life at one point or another. When the difficulties in life feel too much to manage on our own, counselling and psychotherapy offer a confidential and safe environment in which we can explore these difficulties and find the direction to lasting changes. Often our current difficulties have their roots in the past. Problems emerge when we stick to our old ways of coping. Counselling can help us make links to the past and find more adaptive ways of coping. It can help us to tune in to our emotions and thus understand what matters the most and what needs to be changed.

I work with clients who struggle with a range of issues including anxiety, depression , relationship difficulties, grief, loss, childhood trauma and low self-esteem .
People come to counselling for many reasons. Sometimes this decision is motivated by a need for change or perhaps having to deal with unexpected change. For others it may be a desire to talk, to understand and be understood. I believe there can be real value in talking with someone who is trained and experienced to listen in a way that allows you to feel heard and understood. I provide a safe and non-judgemental space where we can explore the issues that you want to address.

If you find that you keep trying to protect yourself from difficult experiences/memories and your old ways of managing problems no longer seem to work, you are not alone. Old/early response methods are often unhelpful in the present life experience. For example, one may try to only feel what they learned to believe is acceptable or expected of them, eventually losing touch with their authentic feelings/needs. Emotion suppression often leads to depression , anxiety, physical pain, and illness, then one feels unable to fully appreciate the present experience. When suppressed, emotions await within the body for releasing opportunities.

I understand personally and professionally how debilitating and exhausting it can be to live with depression , anxiety and other mental health issues.
I believe mental health is just as important as physical health, the two are intricately bound together. In a non-judgemental, warm and supportive environment, I will help you to understand where the problems you are experiencing have arisen. We will work out why they have become so problematic and hard to deal with. I will help you to find strategies to cope better and tools to help you to move on in your life and feel stronger and more content. As with any problem, the sooner it is acknowledged, the sooner you can begin your recovery. This is true of emotional and physical issues, as well as practical.

During my time with Cruse, I have helped my clients with various difficulties including sleep issues, trauma, anxiety, low mood and depression , eating issues and relationship issues.
As a CBT therapist I am passionate about how the therapeutic alliance can help a client to explore their feelings about the difficulties they are experiencing in life. I believe that by providing a safe, calm and relaxing space, talk therapy can play a vital role in improving a client's mental health. Together, I work with my clients to identify how problems manifest themselves, put these findings into perspective by guiding them through a process working towards setting new goals, adopting new coping strategies and providing them with the relevant tools to continue to work on improving their mental health.

Gestalt therapy is a holistic and creative therapy and has many tools that support the process of overcoming trauma and deal with anxiety and depression .
Sometimes to understand ourselves and our situations better, we need someone else to hear and understand us, to be alongside us on our journey and see the broader view. Therapy is a safe confidential and open space to explore all of who we are. It is a relationship that brings compassionate curiosity to our experience and enables us to harness more of ourselves in our lives and celebrate our uniqueness. We are each an expert on our own lives but sometimes we need support to make sense of it, find our way back, forward or sideways; to become aware of what is and what was. Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Edinburgh. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
