Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counselling in Edinburgh
I integrate a range of therapeutic approaches, including aspects of CBT and DBT, to best meet the individual needs and experiences of each client.
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read through my page. I'm originally from South Africa, but have lived across the UK since 2016. This has given me the opportunity to develop an insight into how complex life, and our histories, can be, and the impact and difficulties this can give rise to. I draw from a psychodynamic base- understanding the nature and impact both the relationships with others, as well as ourselves, can have. I have experience working with teens - older adults, and tend to offer a more gentle, rather than structured, approach. I strive to develop a space where client's feel safe, protected, and heard.

While there is so much joy in getting to know ourselves deeply and authentically, living as a queer and/or transgender person in this world is not always easy. I specialise in gender, sexuality, and relationship diversity. I work with adults and older adolescents who are LGBTQIA+/gender non-conforming, or questioning their identities. I also specialise in trauma recovery, treating healthcare professionals, and working with English speaking immigrants. I work from multiple affirming perspectives, including Health at Every Size, neurodivergence affirming, disability affirming, and fat-positive perspectives.

My work is evidence based and formulation-led, drawing on Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) alongside CBT and Trauma-focused CBT.
If you are feeling stuck in familiar patterns, overwhelmed by past experiences, or unsure how to move forward, you are not alone. You may notice the same difficulties showing up in relationships, how you cope with stress, or how you see yourself. Many people seek therapy because they want to understand why these patterns persist and find a way forward that feels grounded and purposeful. I offer trauma-informed psychological therapy, where developing a shared understanding of how your experiences have shaped these patterns is at the heart of the process of creating meaningful and sustainable change.

I use an integrative and pragmatic approach, where I pull from different therapeutic modalities ( CBT, ACT, Psychodynamic, Narrative, Existential) to help you achieve your current goals.
So often our difficulties make us feel stuck, bound in place. We can feel caught in a loop, and not know how to get free. We might even know what to do - but either can't seem to do it or it won't work. And sometimes we don't even know what is making us feel stuck and where to start. Problems with our health, mood, traumatic experiences, changes to our life circumstances like work or living arrangement, relationships, habits- any of these can make us feel stuck.

I am a CBT practitioner but also use EMDR and counselling.
It can be extremely daunting to start your journey in therapy and this is why I have a very professional and relaxed approach. After an assessment, we would be able to establish how we can work together and what that would entail. This is often the beginning of an amazing journey.

Are you struggling with anxiety or depression? Unhappy, stressed, experiencing relationship problems, feeling alone or held back by bereavement? Therapy can be short term, 4-6 sessions and we can work together in a highly focused way, including exploring strategies if you wish to. For some, longer term therapy is preferred. In this we can explore issues in greater depth and you can be supported to make lasting changes in your life.

I offer warm, down-to-earth therapy using CBT as my main approach, alongside mindfulness and self-compassion.
You might be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck or burnt out, particularly if you’ve been pushing through and managing on your own for a while. You may find yourself overthinking, struggling with self-doubt or perfectionism, or feeling unsettled in your relationships. Things might feel harder than they “should”, and you may not fully understand why. You’re looking for a calm, non-judgemental space where you can be yourself, make sense of what’s going on, and learn practical tools to feel more grounded, confident, and in control, at a pace that works for you.

In our sessions, we’ll draw on cognitive behavioral therapy to connect the dots between your past experiences and present patterns, but always with a focus on where you want to go from here.
If you’re here, you might be feeling that gap between the life you’re living and the life you want. You’re not alone in this, and together, we can work to close that distance. The goal is to help you explore what’s been holding you back and to uncover the strengths and values that can guide you forward. Facing what’s uncertain can be daunting. It’s natural to want to avoid the things that bring discomfort or fear. But often, it’s in facing these challenges, side by side, that we discover our resilience.
