I have extensive experience in working with clients with a range of struggles such as depression, anxiety, trauma, self-harm, self-esteem, relationships, grief and more.
Everyone has a unique reason for starting their therapy journey: feeling stuck, desiring to change but not knowing how, or simply wanting to explore oneself. Whatever brings you to therapy, my approach is to walk along with you in understanding your needs, struggles and simply: you. In my experience, getting to know who you are brings inner peace and leads to more fulfilling relationships with others. Background and culture can play a significant role in this journey, which is why I invite clients to explore any and all aspects of their identity.

I support people with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and suicidal ideation.
I provide professional guidance and support, helping you understand yourself and perhaps even see things in new ways. I use techniques to help you calm distress, process the past, and strengthen your inner resources. My thinking is mainly psychodynamic. I link the 'now' with unconscious processes, formative relationships, and relational patterns.

I welcome clients of all ages and have a particular interest in supporting those facing bereavement, loneliness, anxiety, low self-esteem, and depression.
Life can feel challenging, and it’s not always easy to make sense of what you’re going through. When things become confusing, heavy, or simply too much to manage on your own, counselling offers a steady place to pause and get support. I provide a calm, confidential space where you can talk openly and without judgement. You’re welcome to bring whatever is on your mind — nothing is too small or too complex. I have the training, capability, and life experience to work with a wide range of concerns, and I’ve supported all ages of adults and young people in both primary and secondary school and early twenties too.

I also work with individuals navigating grief, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and childhood trauma.
As someone of mixed heritage, multicultural, and from an immigrant family, I bring a personal understanding of feeling labelled and othered. I practice with radical openness - meeting each individual in context. Therapy can be a space to examine how you have adjusted to injustice or harm, and to begin transforming those experiences together.

Seeking support through counselling can be a difficult first step on a journey to better mental health, but the process can be truly life-changing. My aim is to create a safe, non judgemental, compassionate space in which to explore your problems, enabling you to gain a better understanding of your difficulties. I believe it is important to look at the roof of your issues to try and gain the necessary insight to help change your mindset or any patterns of behaviour that are troubling you.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted from holding everything together, therapy can offer a place to pause and breathe. You might be facing something particularly painful, questioning who you are, or simply sensing that something needs attention. You may be longing for a space that feels safe enough to unpack how you’re feeling, as even close relationships carry expectations, roles, and relational dynamics. I offer a non-judgemental, compassionate space where you don’t need to be anything other than you are. There is no pressure here.

You might be living with grief, navigating a major transition, or feeling caught in patterns that leave you frustrated, numb, or quietly exhausted.
My way of working is warm, steady, and collaborative. Therapy with me offers a calm, supportive space where you don’t need the right words or a clear plan. I listen carefully, help you explore what feels confusing or overwhelming, and support new understanding to emerge, allowing change to unfold at a pace that feels right for you.

I work with those who feel uprooted- whether after loss, life transitions, or the constant feeling of never being enough.
Therapy with me isn’t about “fixing” you. It’s a space where we can explore how your past and unconscious patterns shape how you move through the world. I do this by attending to your present situation: what is unsaid, unfelt, often embodied. Working in this way builds trust in your agency and opens us up to your intuitive responses to your issues.

I have worked with a range of clients, experiencing issues ranging from anxiety, depression, trauma, work and relationship problems, eating disorders, bereavement and life transitions.
I have always been profoundly curious about others and aim to foster that curiosity in my clients. I am interested in the ways that our families, culture and environment shape us and in the ways in which people create meaning in their lives. I have found again and again that psychotherapy can help people understand themselves more deeply and bring about changes which lead to more fulfilled and interesting ways of living, as well as to an improved understanding of themselves in relationship with others. I am able to work on both a short and long term basis, with a preference for longer term work.

Hello, I’m Sophie, thank you for reading my page. Clients often say that when faced with a life issue, it can be helpful to share thoughts and feelings with someone outside of family and friends. People often hide parts of themselves in order to cope with the outside world. What can help is a safe space and meaningful connection with someone to work through issues and make the changes that you want. As a registered counsellor, I really believe that each of us has the essence and capacity to grow and that your life experiences deserve to be heard.

I have over 20 years experience working in varied settings responding to a range of issues: anxiety, depression, chronic illness, stress, relationship difficulties, bereavement, minority issues, trauma and abuse and end of life care.
My experience comes from the work that I have undertaken in a range of settings - CRUSE bereavement care, Relationships Scotland, HIV/HCV services, sexual abuse and trauma services, in-care survivors services, learning disability services. This has given me a sound base of knowledge and skills from which to draw from in my work with individual clients.

Whether you’re navigating grief, anxiety, low mood, or looking for neuro‑affirming support as a neurodivergent person, I’m here to help you build self‑awareness and move toward meaningful change.
There’s not one best way to have therapy. Some clients enjoy a regular weekly session in my cosy room, often with my dog Bella keeping us company. Others prefer more flexibility, whether that’s adjusting the frequency of sessions or choosing a format that suits them best, including face‑to‑face, online, or outdoor therapy. I work daytime Monday to Wednesday.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
