I'm pleased to offer a confidential, professional and warm space for you to unpack whatever's on your mind.
Anxiety
, depression, loss and trauma are some of the main areas I have experience of working with people who've found counselling useful. I've specialised in working one-one with clients in person, online and over the phone, for over 8 years. I'm continually refreshing my professional skills and knowledge and I'm trained to work with a range of presenting concerns. I help people gain a deeper comprehension of all aspects of their lives and to find ways to cope with issues in their lives.

I am a registered psychotherapist with UKCP and an accredited member of BACP. In these difficult times all sessions are online or by phone. I think it’s really important to have a space to talk and explore issues. I am here to listen to you, support you, challenge you and educate you. I work with issues around
anxiety
depression and relationship issues. I offer time limited or longer support. My aim is to help you make the changes you want in your life. Take the first step to positive change and contact me. I offer a free 15 min phone or video session which allows us to discuss how we could work together.

For the past nine years I have been helping individuals, couples and families with mental health difficulties across a range of settings. Typical problems that I have experience treating include depression,
anxiety
, OCD, adjustment difficulties, trauma/PTSD, stress and relationship difficulties. I see psychotherapy as a personal journey, a chance to get to know yourself better, a safe space to explore and to grow. My interests lie in a human, in embodied experience and in the process.

Gestalt therapy is a holistic and creative therapy and has many tools that support the process of overcoming trauma and deal with
anxiety
and depression.
Sometimes to understand ourselves and our situations better, we need someone else to hear and understand us, to be alongside us on our journey and see the broader view. Therapy is a safe confidential and open space to explore all of who we are. It is a relationship that brings compassionate curiosity to our experience and enables us to harness more of ourselves in our lives and celebrate our uniqueness. We are each an expert on our own lives but sometimes we need support to make sense of it, find our way back, forward or sideways; to become aware of what is and what was. Whatever your reasons for being here, you are very welcome. I provide a very safe and confidential space to people from ALL walks of life. Whatever difficulties you are experiencing I can help you to gain insight into why they exist and persist. Psychodynamic therapy helps you to bring that which is unconscious into conscious awareness which helps you to understand and resolve internal conflicts which cause suffering. These internal conflicts manifest as, for example,
anxiety
, depression and self-destructive behaviours, particularly in relationship with others. Psychodynamic therapy is effective in enabling life long change.

I work with adults and adolescents who have experienced trauma or suffer with
anxiety
-related issues such as
panic
attacks, phobias and so on.
Trauma can include life-threatening events or simply moments where you were overwhelmed and felt helpless. A troubling or terrifying event has an impact on the whole person – it is held in the body, changes ways of thinking, and often comes with an overwhelming set of emotional and behavioural responses. At times, these changes and responses are unhelpful and seriously affect people’s quality of life and their ability to move forward. Working together, we explore and come to understand your current responses. We identify tools that you can use to rebuild your life in a way that works for you.

anxiety
, frustration or despair. When all your efforts to make things better still haven't worked, maybe it's time to think about trying a different approach. Working with a experienced relationship counsellor can give you the time and space to explore what is troubling you. I work with individual adults and couples from all backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities to help them gain insight and fresh perspectives on life, relationships, and other issues that cause distress.

I work with more defined issues such as
anxiety
, depression, eating disorders, phobias and OCD as well as more general issues such as low self-esteem.
How are you navigating life at the moment? You may have been suffering from emotional discomfort for a while, perhaps it's more recent or maybe the pandemic has had an effect on your mental health. You are not alone, 1 in 4 of us are affected by mental health issues at some point in our lives. Looking for support to understand what you are feeling can be life changing. How we make sense of ourselves, the world and our place in it can affect our relationships, friendships, careers, social lives perhaps even robbing us of our potential. Therapy, through insight and application can deliver acceptance, change, clarity and relief.

I have a special interest in issues such as bereavement, loneliness,
anxiety
, low self-esteem and depression.
Being human can be complicated, there are times we all struggle to make sense of how we’re living. Sometimes nothing seems to bring us any sense of joy, meaning or simply contentment anymore. Talking to a counsellor might seem intimidating or downright terrifying but it’s honestly true that talking can make a huge difference and help make those negative or even desperate times easier to manage. I will provide you with a safe, non-judgemental space in which you can share any problems or troubling thoughts you might have. Together we will work through these in order that you can find resolution and happiness in your life.

Whether it’s self-development, addressing emotional and psychological issues, or processing traumatic events, I will work with you both Psychodynamically and in a Person-centred way as the need arises. What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
