People come to counselling for many reasons. Sometimes this decision is motivated by a need for change or perhaps having to deal with unexpected change. For others it may be a desire to talk, to understand and be understood. I believe there can be real value in talking with someone who is trained and experienced to listen in a way that allows you to feel heard and understood. I provide a safe and non-judgemental space where we can explore the issues that you want to address.

Sometimes we can feel a bit broken. We all need to heal and repair every so often. You may be finding that getting out of bed is a struggle, noticing that you don’t enjoy the things you used to, you might be feeling disconnected from your life and finding yourself a bit worried about how past experiences are affecting your life now.

When we are trying to make sense of our situation or understand ourselves, we may feel we need someone to hear us. It could be something in particular that is causing you difficulties such as anxiety, stress, depression, grief or relationship issues. Or it can be a feeling of uncertainty, something about how you are feeling isn't quite right. We are all part of an interconnected world influenced by and influencing our relationships and situations. For this reason I give attention to your personal history, life situation and narrative.

If you are dealing with difficulties or are feeling increasingly aware of the need to talk to someone, I am here. I am a qualified and experienced counsellor working with adults experiencing a range of issues. I believe that we are all valuable individuals with our own unique experiences and sometimes need a confidential, safe environment in which to gain powerful insight and life changing perspective. You will find my approach to be warm, grounding and attuned to you as an individual. My clients often refer to the trust we build between us as allowing them the space and safety to say anything.

Living with difficult family relationships, isolation, grief, loss, worry or prejudice can leave you feeling anxious, stuck, depressed, shut down, disconnected or drained. Maybe the values or beliefs of your family or culture are at odds with your authentic identity, creating an inner conflict. Perhaps you have become wrapped in your job or the expectations of others and have lost touch with who you really are. Have you learned to put others first to the detriment of yourself? Maybe you jump into romantic relationships too quickly and deeply – or have decided you are better off by yourself and yet part of you longs for connection.

I help angry people, to reduce or remove the need to be angry. I help people to communicate more authentically, to get the outcomes that help them. I help people to see conflict as a tool, rather than something to avoid. I help people to understand their unmet needs, and how to get them met well, for healthier lifestyles. I help people make sense of their behaviours, and to decide whether to keep them, or to find good reason to change them. I help people to understand and name their emotions, and to know what to do with them instead of hoping they go away.

Are you struggling with anxiety or depression? Unhappy, experiencing relationship problems, feeling alone or held back by trauma or bereavement? Are you seeking counselling for a child or young person? Therapy can be short term, 4-6 sessions and we can work together in a highly focused way, including exploring strategies if you wish to. For some, longer term therapy is preferred. In this we can explore more deeply the issues you are bringing, enabling you to experience the changes you seek. For children therapy happens in the midst of play and craft activities. Therapy can help pave the way to a more hopeful future for all.

The last few years have been disorientating, changing us and the world around us. It's no wonder we're feeling more anxious and confused as we adjust and process the last few years. You may find that issues you coped with before are now magnified and more painful. Difficult experiences in your past can resurface and you may feel there is no-one you can be honest with about your thoughts. Perhaps you had an increased workload during the pandemic and are now at the stage of burnout? Whatever you are struggling with, sharing your issues in confidence, at your pace can help you gain the clarity and control you need in your life.

Hello and a warm welcome. Counselling is a process in which a trained therapist can help you to understand and deal with difficult emotions that you may be experiencing. These can be linked with previous difficult life experiences. People often seek counselling when they are going through challenging times in their lives. You may be feeling low, anxious or depressed. I can help you make sense of what is happening and try to help you to find ways of dealing with this.

Sometimes, we try to make sense of our world, thoughts, feelings and emotions. We might find ourselves repeating patterns of behaviour in our present lives due to past experiences and patterns. I want to help you shift mental blocks, untangle complex emotions, resolve issues and reveal new perspectives. Whether it’s self-development, addressing emotional and psychological issues, or processing traumatic events, I will work with you both Psychodynamically and in a Person-centred way as the need arises. Delivering both online and face to face therapies in the centre of Edinburgh, we will work together to help you achieve your goal.

Do you often feel a sense of guilt or shame around food? Do thoughts of food become intrusive or overwhelming? Are you often binging or eating until you feel uncomfortable or sick (Binge Eating Disorder)? Perhaps you are fixated on 'healthy' or 'clean' eating (Orthorexia Nervosa)? Maybe you 'purge' by excessively exercising, restricting, making yourself sick, using laxatives, or have a history of yo-yo dieting (Bulimia Nervosa)? Perhaps you avoid whole food groups and are often called a 'fussy' or 'picky' eater (ARFID)? Or a combination of any of the above (EDNOS)? It sounds like you are struggling with an Eating Disorder!

Firstly, we would explore together the presenting issues to establish a focus and goal for the work in terms of what you want or need to achieve. In following sessions these will be kept in mind as part of a process of becoming the best version of yourself; looking at your options, yours strengths and your qualities as well as addressing the difficulties you are having with the more challenging areas of your life. These could be social and relational issues, anxiety, depression, stress or bereavement and loss. Or managing a new or long-standing mental health condition.

What you are struggling with at the moment is understandable and meaningful, and taking the risk of talking to someone is courageous and hopeful. Sometimes, it can be hard to identify exactly what's wrong, or what might help things feel better. It is my intention for us to work together to explore what's going on for you, so that you don't have to do it alone. My energy and commitment aims to facilitate a warm and trusting therapeutic relationship, which you can rely on. I will trust your system and where it takes us as we discover together what hurts and where we might find healing.

Self Esteem Counsellors
Self-esteem lives on a spectrum: Not enough self-regard (or low self esteem) can lead people to become depressed, or to tolerate abusive situations and relationships. Too much self-love (or high self-esteem), results in an off-putting sense of entitlement and an inability to learn from failure. And it's occasionally a sign of clinical narcissism. Quite the opposite of being shy or shyness, yet still on the same spectrum.
