Therapy generally can be challenging, discovering ones barriers, patterns of behaviour, amongst many other possible struggles that aren't serving you well in your daily life or that you've been carrying with you for a long time. As a pluralistic counsellor and psychotherapist, I embrace this diversity of human experiences and what each individual brings to the counselling room. I specialise in working with individuals who have experienced abuse, trauma, anxiety, depression, addictions and bereavement. Whether seeking support in these areas or others, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore, grow, and thrive.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, frustrating, or simply not how we hoped it would be. We may struggle with anxiety, low mood, addiction, relationship difficulties, loss, trauma, or patterns that seem to repeat themselves despite our best efforts to change them. All these issues are understandable, and it is normal to have problems, but they don't need to run your life.
Reaching out for support takes courage and I will support you. Whether you are seeking help with a specific issue, or looking for deeper personal growth, we can work together to achieve recovery, change, autonomy and lasting wellbeing.

Everybody has problems so why should you go for counselling? Problems are part of everyday life, we all encounter them and fortunately we are able to solve them the majority of the time without any intervention.
Counselling may be beneficial to you if problems become all consuming and start to affect your personal happiness, perhaps take up a high percentage of your thinking time or in fact prevent you from doing day to day things. Today's fast pace of life does not always offer time to reflect on how we are feeling or help us understand why we become unhappy, low in mood and no longer enjoy life.

I assume you have something you would like to talk privately to somebody about. I wonder what it is like to be you. Do you often feel alien, struggling to understand and be understood by others? Is finding friends and keeping them hard? Would you rather avoid groups whilst wanting to belong? Does change hit you hard? Do you feel distant from others and even yourself? And maybe answering seemingly simple questions, such as “how are you?” or “what do you need?” feels difficult. I have some idea of what that is like. I offer you acceptance within a non-judgemental, empathic therapeutic relationship.

When we feel lost, stuck, or uncertain for an extended period, pausing and taking the time to understand ourselves can help us find clarity and direction. But sometimes self-exploration is challenging to navigate alone. I offer a safe, supportive environment to work with you in this process. I listen deeply and ask gentle and thoughtful questions that may encourage you to reflect and help you see yourself and your situation from different perspectives.

You might feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or stuck in patterns you don’t know how to change. You may overthink everything, struggle with procrastination or time management, and feel frustrated that everyday tasks seem to take more effort than they should. On the outside, you might look like you’re coping, while inside your mind feels busy, noisy, or constantly behind.
Many people I work with are exploring ADHD in adulthood. Alongside relief, this realisation can bring confusion, grief, or a sense of loss for how life might have been. You may be questioning yourself, your past, or why things felt harder for so long.

Take a breath. What if therapy felt like the one place you didn't have to explain yourself? If you're exhausted from carrying the weight of trauma, isolated by navigating your life as a neurodivergent or LGBTQ+ person, or feeling disconnected from yourself or your partner, I offer a compassionate and collaborative environment through my practice, Desktop Counselling, where you can show up exactly as you are.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
