Are you are here because you have important things to discuss but nowhere to express them? Does being you feel difficult? Do you long for connection but struggle with being in contact? Perhaps it is confusing to be asked how you are or what you need? Life may feel overwhelming just now? Do you struggle with belonging? Possibly everything changed around you and left you feeling lost and uncertain? You are not alone in these feelings and they don't have to define you. I offer you the space to speak out the thoughts and feelings that seem too much to talk to anyone about, you can say what you need to and be heard without judgement.

Everybody struggles sometimes and talking about whatever may be troubling us helps us to explore our inner feelings. However, considering counselling can feel a bit daunting. Often, we are so used to putting others before ourselves that it can almost feel selfish to take care of ourselves so we just try to 'get on with it'. It can be difficult to take that first step but I can provide a safe space where I will work compassionately with you to help explore whatever may be troubling you. It can be healing to speak to someone outside of your own circle who can be non judgemental and empathic.

Hello, my name is Andy, I’m a counsellor & psychotherapist based in Finnieston, Glasgow and a Registered Member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). I work with clients (aged 16+) in-person and online. Working online means I’m able to help people across the UK & worldwide. I believe the true mechanism of change is through the relationship & although I've extensive theoretical knowledge to assist me in the therapeutic process, it is the connection to my clients which I find is most vital.

Are you feeling weighed down by low mood, anxiety, or trouble sleeping? Whether these feelings stem from a challenging life event, a major transition like changes in health or employment, or seem to have appeared out of nowhere, it can feel overwhelming. You may even feel stuck, unsure of how to move forward, and disconnected from the things and people that once brought joy and meaning to your life. When life feels this way, it’s easy to withdraw, which can unintentionally deepen those feelings of isolation and helplessness. But it doesn't have to stay this way!

Sometimes we reach a point in our lives where we "get stuck" or find it hard to move on from difficult thoughts, feelings or behaviours. I know because I have been there too. But I believe we all have the capacity to self-heal, change and grow. And if you are reading this, you may wish to start your own journey. Why not begin that now? I offer a safe space to talk through your problems of living and, although working face-to-face with most clients in the Glasgow area, am certified to work safely and ethically online, having completed NCS and ACTO-accredited training.

It's tough opening up to someone but we, via the therapeutical alliance, can create a safe space of trust where there is confidentiality, no judgment and that the client feels comfortable sharing. Here are some testimonials from previous clients for you to ponder: Social anxiety- My gran nearly fainted when she saw me ask someone who works in a shop a question, something I've never done in my life before. Trauma- Thanks so much for all that you've done, honestly you've been a saviour to me. Low self esteem- I've realised I'm stronger than I thought. Depression- You've helped me see that I can get the joy back in my life. Thanks.

Hello, thank you for visiting my page. Seeking help for any mental health issue is never easy and finding someone that you feel you can work with and trust is often even harder. I have worked with many mental health conditions over the years, both in the NHS and private practice. Mental health is often a subject that is not taught within UK schools. We unfortunately have tricky brains and rarely learn how they work and what we can do to manage them in a much more helpful way. My passion is about helping people learn skills to successfully manage their mental health and improve their quality of life and that of their families.

When life gets tough it can be so hard to know just what to do to put things right. Feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, difficulties within our relationships - these things are not always easy to change on our own, especially for the longer-term. I understand that. It can make a real difference to how you feel, how you act, and is a big step forward. Counselling is there for you, no matter what the problem. Hi thank you for visiting my profile. I work in an integrative way which means I use different counselling techniques depending on what works best for, you, the client. I believe in a person centred approach which helps clients to reconnect with their core values and sense of self-worth. This approach, along with other tools, can help facilitate the client's personal growth by enabling them to explore and utilise their own strengths. I also use CBT when appropriate and psychodynamic therapy.

Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, dementia, and physical mobility challenges.
How can geriatric therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.
How is counselling for elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
Many aspects of geriatric counselling are similar to counselling in younger age groups; in general, counselling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. However, therapists who specialise in working with elderly clients may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counselling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.
Can geriatric counselling help people who suffer from dementia?
Counselling can be highly effective for aging adults with dementia. While some therapists specialising in dementia may work with clients solely on topics surrounding memory loss, they can also assist clients with conditions that may co-occur at old age, such as anxiety or depression. Counsellors specialising in working with older adults can also offer an objective assessment of a client’s functioning or disease progression to caregivers, and they may be particularly knowledgeable about community resources that may benefit dementia clients and their families. Therapists specialising in dementia may also be trained in specialised forms of therapy for memory loss, such as Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST)—which can help mentally stimulate dementia clients to preserve cognitive functioning.
