I work predominantly from a Schema Therapy model, meaning we process the trauma and adversity that led to your Eating Disorder developing safely and collaboratively.
Do you often feel a sense of guilt or shame around food? Do thoughts of food become intrusive or overwhelming? Are you often binging or eating until you feel uncomfortable or sick? Perhaps you are fixated on 'healthy' or 'clean' eating? Maybe you 'purge' by excessively exercising, restricting, making yourself sick, using laxatives, or have a history of yo-yo dieting? Perhaps you avoid whole food groups and are often called a 'fussy' or 'picky' eater? Or a combination of any of the above? It sounds like you are struggling with an Eating Disorder!

I work in a way that is compassionate, direct, authentic and deeply neuro-atypical-affirming. I understand what it is like to feel emotionally overwhelmed by everyday life, overthink conversations for hours afterwards, struggle with rejection sensitivity, experience burnout, mask constantly around other people, feel different or misunderstood, live with chronic anxiety or emotional exhaustion, crave connection while simultaneously finding relationships difficult, feel stuck between perfectionism and overwhelm, and carry shame for “not functioning” the way you think you should.

I offer an integrative approach using Schema Therapy, EMDR and Compassion Focused Therapy to help bridge the gap between what you understand logically and what you feel emotionally.
Many of my clients are thoughtful, self-aware people who understand where their difficulties come from, yet still feel stuck. You might know you are good enough, yet not feel it. You may struggle with low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem or a harsh inner critic that affects relationships, work and daily life. I have a special interest in maternal mental health, supporting women with postpartum anxiety, birth trauma, mum guilt, overwhelm or feeling lost in motherhood, as well as difficulties that continue beyond this stage. Whether you are a mum or not, if you feel exhausted, stuck or disconnected from yourself, you are not alone.

You might know what your goals for therapy are or you may be feeling overwhelmed and confused about where to even begin. As an experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist I can offer you a safe space to explore your difficulties in confidence; to identify how you would like things to be and work with you to find your own way forward. Although my approach is primarily CBT based I work in a trauma informed way, drawing upon a variety of therapeutic approaches learned throughout my professional development.

Are you feeling weighed down by low mood, anxiety, or trouble sleeping? Whether these feelings stem from a challenging life event, a major transition like changes in health or employment, or seem to have appeared out of nowhere, it can feel overwhelming. You may even feel stuck, unsure of how to move forward, and disconnected from the things and people that once brought joy and meaning to your life. When life feels this way, it’s easy to withdraw, which can unintentionally deepen those feelings of isolation and helplessness. But it doesn't have to stay this way!

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and have spent my career in Adult Mental Health services in the NHS, supporting people individually and in groups. My clinical practice aims to foster increased psychological flexibility to support becoming more emotionally open, cognitively flexible, aware in the present moment and actively engaged in a meaningful life. Between life’s busyness and navigating struggles we can become disconnected from ourselves and what matters to us, spending our days trying to cope rather than living. With compassion we can create a space, a gap within the struggle, to heal and reconnect with your life.

Hello, my name is Ellie and I’m a CBT therapist. If you’ve stumbled on this page, I can imagine you may be going through a difficult time. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed or not quite yourself, and it feels hard to see a way forward. I understand how challenging it can be to break free from patterns of negative thinking and behaviour — it can feel like being tangled in knots you can’t untie. That’s where CBT can help. Together we’ll gently work through these patterns and find ways to move forward with more self-compassion.

Ideally, you’ll feel open to hearing what psychology can do for you. You’ll feel able to speak about what life’s like for you and where you want to get to. I won’t ask you to disclose all that’s happened to you but I’ll be able to hear what you feel ready to share. As well as trying to fix things, we’ll look to see your positives and build on them. Your instincts will tell you if I’m the right person for you and whether you feel ready to embark upon a change process.

Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, low mood, stress, or self doubt. Some are finding relationships difficult, experiencing intense emotions, or noticing patterns of behaviour that feel hard to understand or change. Others may be navigating questions around identity, confidence, or a sense of feeling stuck, while some are living with the impact of past or recent trauma. Often, there is a desire to make sense of what is happening beneath the surface. To understand themselves more deeply, step out of unhelpful cycles, and feel more grounded, connected, and fulfilled in everyday life.

Schema Therapy Counsellors
How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?
Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?
Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognising and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
