I work with trauma-informed approaches integrating somatic and talk therapy to help you gain insight, and strategies to calm the body so that you will regain a sense of physical and mental ease.
Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure of yourself? Maybe you're struggling with a harsh inner critic, feeling disconnected, or carrying the weight of old wounds that are hard to name, let alone talk about. If you're looking for a space where you can begin to make sense of things — at your own pace and in your own way — I’d be glad to walk alongside you. I'm a warm, down-to-earth psychotherapist who believes therapy should be shaped around you. I offer a flexible approach, drawing from a range of ways of working — including talking, creative processes, body awareness, and exploring different aspects or “parts” of yourself.

My diploma is in somatic counselling but I integrate it with psychodynamic and person-centered (rogersian) theories and techniques.
What happened to us, doesn't have to define us. The narrative of our issues can be transformed in something different. A healing story that can give you empowerment and freedom. Maybe you are dealing with anxiety, depression, anger. Maybe you are looking for happiness or you feel you are lost. Or maybe, you still don't know what's missing. Regardless, I understand it's important for you to know how to cope, where you want to go in your life and what really matters to you. Finding and/or redefine your personal story, that fits your own true self, may give you the answers you are looking for.

As a trained therapist in somatic psychology, I believe that we are all born with inner resources that we inherit and embody and which are there to support us during hard times.
My aim as a somatic facilitator is to create conditions for your personal journey of re-connection and self-discovery steered by the expansion in sensory system, embodied thinking, new depths of awareness and emotional resilience. I cherish a very individual approach to working with your inner knowing, integrative processing, intuition and sensitivity.

I specialise in depression, trauma, anxiety, stress and somatic experiencing.
Letting go is about learning how to be with the uncertainty of life. Change is not easy, but the sages, mystics and wise amongst us know that in order to move forward and live the best version of our lives we need to accept where we are and ask ourselves if this is ok or all we want. When we accept where we are, we can make the decisions necessary for that change we may feel is required. At that point we have already begun the process of Letting-go. It is also a point where you may decide to come & chat to me. ‘Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.’ (J. Baldwin)

Hello, I'm a counsellor and a trauma-focused therapist based in Aberdeen, Scotland. I offer one-on-one therapy sessions, either online or in-person. My professional , educational and volunteering journeys have enabled me to understand impacts of traumatic events (war, childhood abuse, and sexual abuse) on mental health. These adverse events can shatter everything you believe in, leaving you feeling lost, suicidal, not knowing who you are anymore. I can help you make new meanings, heal and grow. I am flexible in my practice where I integrate various evidence-based therapeutic interventions to meet your needs and foster healing.

Life can be complex and from time to time you may look for someone to journey with you and support you for a while as you find a way to deal with certain challenges and difficulties. You may be dealing with difficult emotions like anxiety, depression, anger or worry which is affecting your peace of mind and happiness and would like to explore new skills, strategies and solutions to get through this. Or perhaps you may be looking for ways to enhance your life, build resilience or deal with life changes and transitions. Maybe you would like to find healing from trauma, or deal with intercultural, racial, or spiritual concerns.

My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Life is complex, and our needs evolve. As a humanist and integrative therapist, I draw on various modalities to tailor our work to you—because no two people experience life the same way. Therapy, for me, is a space where we can be fully human together. It’s about sitting with the tough questions, exploring the parts of life that feel uncertain, and discovering new ways of understanding ourselves. Together, we’ll explore what’s going on for you in a space built on trust and authenticity.

If you are here you are taking your first step towards feeling better. That is courageous and daunting. You may have been feeling anxious or depressed for some time and you are not sure why. Or specific issues in your life are causing worry and stress. You may be navigating life transitions or facing day-to-day challenges. Either way, you feel overwhelmed by your emotions or shut down and disconnected. Or perhaps you have frequently felt 'different' and struggled with things others seem to find easy. You suspect you may be neurodivergent.

Sometimes we experience changes or traumas that leave us struggling with the pressures of life, relationships, work, or studies. This can affect our self-esteem, our sense of identity, and our ability to cope. This can become overwhelming and may lead us to unhelpful or harmful thoughts and behaviours. With help, we can overcome our difficulties and learn to manage our emotions more effectively. With compassion, empathy, respect, and a safe space, we feel heard, considered, and valued. By understanding our thoughts and behaviours we can feel empowered to make positive changes that can lead us to fuller and more enjoyable lives.

I believe everyone’s journey is unique, so I integrate various therapeutic approaches like person-centred, psychodynamic, trauma-focused, and somatic practices.
Maybe you've spent years feeling like you had to be someone else—constantly trying to meet the expectations of others. Whether it’s unresolved trauma, attachment wounds, or the weight of anxiety and depression, it can leave you feeling disconnected from your true self. You might find yourself stuck in people-pleasing, overworking, masking, or repressing your emotions. Coping can turn into unhealthy patterns like self-harming, developing addictions, OCD, or eating disorders. Together, we can unravel those patterns, understand how your past is shaping your present, and help you develop what you need to feel good in your own skin.

So, I also use somatic therapy in my work and am a certified TRE (Tension / Trauma Releasing Exercises) provider.
Hi, I’m Kate. My therapeutic work is underpinned by two important things: the therapeutic relationship and evidence based psychological therapies. Both my clinical experience and research studies suggest that forming a therapeutic relationship that is open, non-judgmental, trusting and empathetic is one of the key active ingredients for effective psychological therapy. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and flexible. I draw on a range of approaches to best meet the needs of the individual I am working with, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as mindfulness

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
