The people I support, most often couples, feel stuck in their relationship, perhaps caught in the same arguments, or struggling to connect the way they used to.
Perhaps you've drifted apart and can't find your way back, or something has happened that's broken your trust. Maybe you don't know where to start. I'm a Clinical Psychologist based in Scotland, specialising in couples therapy and relationship therapy online across the UK, and I can help you understand what's really going on and find a way forward.

Health, finances, relationships, career, family, fitness and unexpected change – more than ever before upsets in these areas can impact our ability to think clearly and move confidently through our day.
Human Givens counselling is a brief therapy with most people as resourced as they want to be in around 4-6 sessions (sometimes less, occasionally a few more). It puts your time and money investments in context when you know you can move forward towards a full, healthy life quickly and confidently within a relatively short timeframe.

Hi, I’m Steph. I work with children, young people and adults who feel anxious, overwhelmed or stuck. This can show up as overthinking, low mood, emotional outbursts, or difficulty coping day to day. I have particular experience supporting children and families, as well as individuals exploring neurodiversity (ADHD/autism). You might feel like you’re just about managing on the outside but struggling underneath. I offer a calm, supportive space where we can make sense of what’s going on, alongside practical tools to help you feel more in control and able to cope.

Over many years I have seen my clients take control of their lives both in their relationships and work. They notice feeling happier, calmer with more direction and purpose. You too can heal your pain and improve your self esteem so that you can build a positive and fulfilling life, and I can help you achieve this.

I'm guessing you are here because you need help/understanding, or seek direction with your life. I completely understand those reasonings and they were some of my motivations to train as a psychotherapist. I have been a client as well as counsellor and therefore aware of that trepidation of taking those first steps towards therapy. I'm glad I did so because it empowered me in my desire to do what was right — for me. I am passionate about supporting those struggling with issues which is why I keep my prices as low as possible. You are a valuable individual. You've started your journey now see where it leads you.

Couples Counselling Counsellors
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
