Hello. I'm Dr Rachel Attfield, an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist. I have experience in working with people with a range of psychological issues. For over 15 years, I have worked with people who are living with physical health conditions (including life limiting diagnoses). Such diagnoses can impact how someone feels emotionally and it can be important to think about the interaction between physical and mental health. In addition to this, I have experience working with a range of different presentations, including trauma, OCD , depression and people struggling to make the changes that they want in life.

Unhelpful thoughts and uncomfortable feelings are part of being human. Sometimes however, we can get stuck in a painful vicious cycle by reacting in unhelpful ways. This doesn’t mean we’re broken. If you’d like to learn new ways of responding to these thoughts and feelings then maybe I can help. I have a lot of experience assessing and treating a wide range of problems using CBT. I use a range of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and mindfulness tools to enhance and compliment traditional CBT. I find this approach extremely effective in helping people to recognise and break unhelpful patterns, overcome problems and prevent relapse.

I am an integrative psychotherapist and work with individuals aged 18+ for both short-term and open-ended therapy. People seek therapy for different reasons. Often it is because they feel stuck, stressed, overwhelmed or hurt. You might be struggling with a relationship, coping with stress or hoping to change a behaviour that is not working for you. When things are difficult, a psychotherapist can support you and help you to grow in whichever way is right for you. I won't tell you what to do, but I will support you to find a way forward for yourself. I am accredited by the UKCP and a member of the BACP.

I feel strongly about working with people in a collaborative manner to form an effective working partnership in understanding some of the patterns that are keeping you ‘stuck’. You may currently feel trapped in a vicious and unhelpful cycle, uncertain of how you can break out of it. This can often mean that day to day life is really difficult, and for some people, this can get in the way of leading the fulfilling life they would want to live.

Hi my work with children and young people has enabled me to adopt a common sense approach. I practise Integrative Counselling, that means I used CBT, Person Centred, Pyschodynamic, etc, concepts. Which are the building blocks of thoughts and beliefs which affect how we feel. I understand the first step in seeking counselling is hard, if you have sought support, you may not know how to effect change it’s at this point we explore choices.

Hello, Im Teri. I offer a relaxed counselling style and definitely no judgement. Im flexible in my approach so I can work with you in a way that suits you best. I can also give you immediate tools to help with anxiety, stress and overwhelm, low mood and also teach you relaxation techniques if you need help with any of those issues. I work to educate you too, so you know why this is happening and how to look out for the signs in the future. But sometimes we just need to download with no fix. I love what I do and even the hardest issues can still be helped with compassion, sensitivity and a little bit of humour thrown in.

How can I find a therapist in S11?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counsellors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
