Starting therapy can be daunting so it’s important that you identify a therapist and an approach to working that feels right for you. As an art psychotherapist, I am open, honest and inclusive with considerable experience supporting children, adolescents and young adults in schools and community settings. My approach to working is psychodynamic - I’m interested in how past events may have affected you, both consciously and unconsciously, influencing the way you think, feel and behave. Should talking about your experiences be too difficult, I may encourage you to try different creative techniques as an alternate means of expression.
One of the benefits of art psychotherapy is that it’s not dependent on complicated speech. Clients have benefited greatly from being able to experiment and use artmaking materials as a means of communicating concerns or experiences that might otherwise be too hard or painful to put into words.
