I am interested in the impact our childhood has on how we have developed as adults. I help people explore their lives now; how they may change who they are; and how they may learn to love and accept what they cannot change. I have over 30 years experience as a counsellor. I have expereince working with people who are neurodiverse.
The second edition of my book Child Development and the Brain was published this year by Policy Press. It explores how neuroscience is helping us discover more about who we are, how we think, and how adversity shapes, but does no determine our futures.
I am clinical director of the Arun Counselling Centre . I am also interested in depression and the way in which it is treated. I am concerned that we over 'medicalise' human suffering seeing depression in simplistic terms. The reality is much more complex and concerns issues around who we are and how we live our lives.
