I can support children through weekly play therapy sessions with a variety of presenting challenges, worries, or past experiences, from a little cabin next to the woods! My practice will suit children who find the confinement of buildings stressful or overstimulating and feel calmer, or more themselves, outdoors and closer to nature.
I can support children who have experienced difficult life events they need to make sense of, who are finding school anxiety inducing or overwhelming, or who struggle to regulate or understand their emotions.

Hello, I'm Carolyn, I offer counselling to adults, children and young people supporting them to explore whatever it is that is stopping them in moving forward or feeling stuck. Once you can understand what is holding you back it is easier to explore change. Perhaps it is low self-esteem, anxiety, anger, self-harm, exam stress, low mood, relationships or family conflicts. Equally, you maybe looking for a confidential space to explore feelings and emotions that are impacting your everyday life. Whatever it is we can work together to find out what your goal would be, to better your life and how we can work together to achieve this.

Let's face it, life is hard sometimes. In fact, sometimes life is hard a lot of the time. And in those times I believe we can really benefit from having someone truly independent and non-judgemental to talk to, and to seek guidance from. I would like to be that person for you. I’ve been where you are, reading through endless profiles, wondering how to choose a therapist. It can be utterly bamboozling, especially when you’ve never done it before. If that’s you, consider stopping here and dropping me an enquiry.

I use a holistic approach to helping children to heal by supporting both parents and their children . Through my work I have noticed that children with low confidence and low self-esteem can express this through becoming withdrawn and avoidant or becoming angry and controlling. I offer play therapy and parent-child attachment play. I also offer reiki energy healing for both adults and children. My holistic approach treats the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.

Clients come with diverse problems and needs. What matters to my clients, matters to me. Generally, I have found problems which manifest in current life relationships (romantic, family, work, with services or with ourself) but which originate in our past experiences are those which can be worked on helpfully using the ways I work. A measure of openness to explore other perspectives and to really think about describing issues is very important as is a commitment to think outside sessions about things that may be the causes of distress.

You may be here because you’re looking for someone you can truly talk to — someone who will listen with empathy, curiosity, and respect.
My role as a therapist is to offer a space where you feel safe and supported as we explore current challenges, past experiences, or beliefs about yourself and the world that may hold you back from living a more fulfilling life.
A clear picture of what exactly troubles you isn't always necessary — only to know that you desire change. Together, we can develop a deeper understanding of what’s happening for you and explore how therapy might support your growth, healing, and potential.

Being human is uniquely challenging. Unexpected (& even expected!) life events, our individual experiences and changes in our personal lives can impact us more than we know. We become quite skilled at developing both helpful and not-so-helpful coping strategies. These work for some time. Until they don't. That's when we may need help to understand and make sense of what we've been dealing with.
That's where I come in! We'll work together to understand your unique situation and what you want to change. The hope is that together, we'll help you get back on track and feel like a better version of yourself.

I am passionate about working with people towards a more fulfilling and empowered life. Together we can explore, not what's wrong with you, but more, what's happened to you. Developing a deeper awareness of ourselves can allow a greater compassion for ourself - thereby enabling us to choose better choices which are more suited to our true self.
Life can sometimes be difficult through no fault of our own. I aim to create a safe, empathic and non-judgmental environment so you can talk freely and confidentially as we explore these things together in your session.

Most people find themselves in emotional distress at some point in their lives. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, overwhelm, trauma, stress, anger, identity issues or maybe you can't put your struggles into words.
You may have suffered a major life event or loss which has left you unable to feel you can cope. Or perhaps you have had an underlying feeling for many years that something isn’t quite right and you would like to explore your internal world in its own right.

Feeling stuck can manifest in many different ways. You may be feeling anxious or depressed or generally uneasy with life. Therapy offers a different perspective that can, with time, help to identify and loosen the grip of what is holding you back.
I can help by supporting you to make space where we can think together about your experience of life and how things might be different. This is usually a challenging but rewarding experience.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
