I understand that life can be hard sometimes. You may feel that your needs aren’t being acknowledged, let alone met; that no one really listens to you. Perhaps you feel worthless or you are unsure where to turn for unbiased support. Maybe you are just really tired of the challenges of life and need the space to work through your feelings and thoughts. Or you are facing a life changing event and need the strength to move through it. I can sit alongside you, and work with you to formulate how you can work towards and achieve your goals.

During these uncertain times of COVID-19, there is one constant that we can draw upon and that is Mother Nature - our original context and fundamental place of belonging. Having therapy or mindfulness sessions outside in nature has a calming influence on our nervous system and offers an opportunity to go back to our roots and escape from the current stresses and being indoors. Whether being with the horses or walking outside in the local countryside, we give ourselves the space to safely explore our experiences of life, build awareness in the present moment and find choice and renewed purpose in our life.

Are you struggling right now and in need of support? Perhaps you are caught in a pattern of unhelpful behavior, feel lost and confused or are looking to make changes in your life but are unsure of what steps to take. If this is the case I can help. I understand what it is like to feel overwhelmed and frustrated by life’s challenges. Sometimes we all need a private space where we can share what is causing us difficulty, gain insight and understanding into our behaviour and feelings and get the support we need to create change in our lives.

The idea of wanting or needing emotional support may feel daunting, but the experience of receiving it doesn’t have to be. If this is your first time considering Psychotherapy or Counselling, or you’ve seen a Psychotherapist / Counsellor before, I would like the chance to listen to you. It can feel extremely difficult opening-up to a stranger, particularly at the beginning, but I hope to build your trust in me to make this easier. In return for your bravery and honesty, I can give you confidentiality without judgment.

I am passionate about working with people towards a more fulfilling and empowered life. Together we can explore, not what's wrong with you, but what's happened to you. A greater awareness of ourselves can allow a greater compassion for ourselves and enable us to make choices more suited to our real needs. Life can sometimes be difficult through no fault of our own. I aim to create a safe, empathic and non-judgmental environment so you can talk freely and confidentially as we explore these things together each week.

Clients come with diverse problems and needs. What matters to my clients, matters to me. Generally, I have found problems which manifest in current life relationships (romantic, family, work, with services or with ourself) but which originate in our past experiences are those which can be worked on helpfully using the ways I work. A measure of openness to explore other perspectives and to really think about describing issues is very important as is a commitment to think outside sessions about things that may be the causes of distress.

I don't have an ideal client as I see each person as unqiue with their own set of issues and needs. I aim to explore with the client the issues they are currently experiencing and then would aim to facilitate the client to identify their needs and then explore how to establish realistic expectations of themselves and others. When we have done this I would help the client to establish their own goals and identify ways to achieve this. I would employ a variety of methods to do this based on the individual's needs so we may focus on understanding the past and its impact on the present or we may focus on the here and now issues.

How can I find a therapist in RG4?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
