Sometimes we can find ourselves in a place where we 'can't see the wood for the trees'. We feel as if we have little or no control over ours or others behaviour. That the direction your life is taking, is going the wrong way. Accompanying this here can often be a sense of loss or injustice, of not being able to imagine a better future. With up to date psychological understanding there is a better future. Building on your own knowledge and resources we can identify your personal goals and what you want out of your appointments. This tailored approach will work with you to resolve your barriers to achieving success.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges or struggling to understand your emotions? Engaging in therapy can help you to understand yourself better and help you to make sense of why you feel the way you do. It takes courage to ask for help and I understand the idea of counselling can feel daunting at first. It is, therefore, my aim to guide you through the process by offering a warm, supportive, and non-judgemental environment. I will be at your side each step of the way so, together, we can explore any issues that you may be struggling with and find ways for you to move forward.

I am studying my degree in Criminology and Psychology.

Welcome to the profile for my private counselling practice in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Why see a counsellor? It can help you better understand your thoughts, feelings and relationships. It can be about the past or the present, or the loss of someone or something. It may be about changing or finding new meaning in life. Maybe you feel stuck in ongoing circumstances, in your work or family life or just in how you feel within yourself. Counselling can be a place to find hope during difficult times or be somewhere to tackle a specific problem. If you feel stressed, anxious, depressed or confused, then counselling can often help.

I offer a hypno gastric band to aid in weight loss, as well as a 10 week hypnotherapy weight loss group. I also offer stop smoking hypnotherapy. I used to be a family solicitor, and so I specialise in helping clients through relationship breakdowns. Counselling can help you work through troubling emotions, thoughts or behaviour. This might include recurring thoughts, anxiety, depression and compulsive or unwanted behaviour. Counselling can also provide a space for those who wish to explore issues from their past including childhood and how these may be impacting them today. Sometimes clients find a few sessions just having the space and time to voice their concerns helps them to clarify things and make connections. Other clients will want to look more deeply into their past and current issues and may require more sessions. I work with individual adults (aged 18+).

I can help you if you are experiencing issues that are causing you distress. Many of us will feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed or ‘stuck’ and it takes courage to ask for help, but you don’t have to struggle to work things out on your own. Finding someone to talk to, when you feel this way, is a sign of strength and regardless of what has brought you to this point, it’s about where you go from here that matters.

Many people come to therapy needing support but not being sure how therapy can help. Life may have become difficult to cope with or feel unhappily limited. You may be seeking to understand why things are the way they are; you may be uncertain about what changes are needed, or your capacity to make them; perhaps you just need to talk to someone not directly involved in your situation. My approach is designed to meet all of these concerns, beginning with supportive listening, facilitating insight into your situation, and ultimately supporting you to grow and nurture your inner resources to meet the challenges you face.

How can I find a therapist in RG25?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
