18 years experience as a Psychotherapist. Online Counselling provided for those isolated at home. It’s very normal to need help when life is challenging or distressing. Such upsets might be because of loss, anxiety, depression or maybe due to childhood neglect, abuse or trauma. Some people simply want to learn more about themselves. Whatever the reason, counselling is a way to help you discover more of who you are, your resilience, find strength and determine a successful strategy that works for you.

Life is difficult and often complex, sometimes engaging in a professional therapeutic relationship can help us make sense of things that are causing us distress. I am a person-centred therapist and I care deeply about the work I do. My therapeutic modality has trained me to work holistically with people as a whole rather than work in a problem specific way. I endeavour to co-create relationships which have a healing effect on my clients. Although I have extensive experience with depression, anxiety and addiction, I work with people, not just their problems.

I have experience in dealing with young people as well as being grounded in working with older adults and their issues. Young adult suffering from low mood or anxiety, adolescents struggling with school based issues, eating disorders, social anxieties and traumas of family life are suited to my practice. It can be difficult reaching out for help but if you can connect correctly with another individual it can help build confidence and rebuild your life. Many people struggle with unresolved pain or illness. I offer techniques to cope with these issues. Often psychological barriers prevent our healing successfully.

Are there parts of you that feel unrepresented, hidden, anxious, ashamed, angry, or judged by others? We aren't born feeling this way, have you ever wondered how you got to where you are now? My clients come to me because they trust I can weather the hard places we visit together. We need to be able to talk about the harder things in life and I would like to offer you the space for this; a space of acceptance, warmth, and goodwill. Let's connect the dots of where you are now, how you got here, and work towards where you'd like to be. Please know that all parts of you are welcome with me. There is hope and there can be healing.

I offer a safe, holding space for you to explore your issues, needs and goals and this may be short or long term therapy, both very effective in their own way and it is up to you to decide. Through the process of exploration I aim to help you become more aware of yourself and others, thus making empowering choices in your life, bringing about positive change and enhancing self esteem. I value the healing effect of the therapeutic relationship and how this can deeply facilitate transformation in both our inner and outer lives.

A warm welcome to my profile page. I have over twenty years experience working in mental health, and I'm here to offer compassionate, non judgemental support, be that with managing the stresses of everyday life, making personal changes or navigating your way through a crisis. People are individuals, and I'm commited to the idea that the support they receive should reflect this and come from a place of positive personal empowerment. I truly believe that difficult times and challenges offer an opportunity for personal growth and development, but also that you don't just have to 'survive' them ,you can come out thriving.

My Name is Mark. I specialise in helping people overcome and gain recovery from Sex Addiction, and have been doing so since 2009. During this time I have tailored my style of therapy to enable my clients to not only gain as much insight to their own addiction, but also the tools to live a more fulfilling life free of addiction. I still feel sex addiction is a taboo area in today’s society where very few people including general counsellors do not fully understand the severity and impact caused.

I work with clients who struggle with a range of issues from relationship challenges to historical sexual abuse. I work with you at your pace in a supportive, non-directive way. I won't ever tell you what to do as I trust that you can come to your own answers with the right support. You may be seeking clarity about a challenging decision to be made or you might want to explore what is blocking you from reaching your potential. It might be that you are lacking in confidence generally and you'd like to get to know who you are and start to believe in yourself. Perhaps you lost your way and you are experiencing an existential crisis.

Working therapeutically with children and teenagers is different from therapy with adults, it requires specialist skills and knowledge. My graduate training included a Masters and 5 years clinical at the Tavistock and Portman (NHS), a world centre for Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy. I work as a Senior Psychotherapist in CAMHS (NHS) and privately with 2 to 25 year olds, and have significant clinical experience in evidence based psychotherapy for depression, self harm, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, abuse, tics, phobias, eating disorders, adoption, illness, trauma, ADHD, school and family problems, and body, trans and gender issues.

Counselling offers an opportunity to explore your concerns in a confidential, non-judgemental setting; someone trained to listen carefully, to support and to help you. Talking through problems with a counsellor who is really listening and trying to understand how it is for you, without judging you, feels supportive and empowering. It helps to relieve painful feelings; gives you an increased understanding of your situation and helps you see a way forward. Because everyone is unique and people want & need different things, and because of my many trainings I am able to fit my way of working to you, rather than using 'one-size-fits-all'

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
