You might be looking for help to make some changes, to process loss or to find some relief from feeling anxious, depressed or stressed. I offer a non-judgemental, empathic space in which we can work through your issues together. It can feel difficult and isolating when you're stuck in unhelpful patterns of thinking, behaving and relating.  Talking it through with me could bring some relief.  Counselling can be an immensely healing and rewarding process. Contact me to discuss open-ended talking therapy or short-term if preferred.

I am an extremely compassionate person who knows that whatever struggles, difficulties and sufferings we endure can be alleviated by being truly listened to and supported in a warm, secure and safe environment with a committed, trusted and caring other. There is no need to suffer in silence. Root causes and solutions will emerge. What do you want to change? What are your goals? What would allow your innate wisdom to shine? Growth and healing is beautiful to both experience and witness. I guarantee you my utmost endeavour and commitment towards freedom from the emotional, psychological and spiritual shackles that can limit us.

We sometimes find it difficult to cope with the things that life throws at us, be it relationship issues, health problems, self esteem and self doubt, anxiety, depression, panic attacks or phobias. Sometimes we just need a safe space where we can explore and talk about the things that worry us with someone who can help us find our own way through the struggle in an empathic and totally non-judgmental way. I am a fully integrative psychotherapist offering counselling and hypnotherapy in a calm, mindful and supportive environment.

I have a specialist interest in working with people who have suffered or are suffering abuse. Abuse can happen to anyone, any gender any age any type such as physical, emotional, sexual and even financial. I will create a safe environment where it is warm and non judgemental. I will be open and genuine so we are able to work towards growth, change and your full potential. We can do this by talking, or creatively by art or a sand tray, which can bridge what is going on in the unconscious to the conscious to then become aware of what may be holding us back.

We grow and change with our environment. We flourish in favourable conditions and feel we are slowed down by difficulties and stresses along the way. We adapt to what we face and sometimes through painful and complicated times we lose a sense of confidence in ourselves and who we are. Then it may be helpful to have someone with us so that we can identify for ourselves how to grow and move forwards. It is an opportunity to look at how we feel, what is important to us, to understand ourselves and feel more in touch with who we really are and who we want to be.

Therapy offers a dedicated space to talk, to be heard, to relate, and to make sense of the past and the present. People come to counselling for many different reasons, and with a wide variety of aims. Some people want support through a difficult time in their life, though bereavement, or with trauma, depression or anxiety. Some people want to change a particular behavioural or relational pattern, or to develop a greater understanding of themselves. If you feel you would benefit from talking confidentially about any challenges you might be experiencing, whatever they may be, you are welcome to get in touch.

Therapy can be transformative - so why struggle alone? Whether you are in deep emotional pain, anxious, stressed or perhaps frustrated with your life, exploring the issues in a safe setting can be empowering. In a world that can feel frantic yet lonely, it's hard to dedicate time to yourself. But you are important: you deserve an opportunity to reassess 'how you got here', to be more self-aware and find ways to be truly happy. I offer the chance to be really heard - with empathy and without judgement - in total confidence. We'll work together to understand what is troubling you at a depth, duration and pace that feel right to you.

Life today seems to be overloaded by a variety of stress in many spheres of existence. What should be enjoyable and fulfilling sometimes turns out to be the very cause of suffering. In the midst of the busy-ness of life, we do not take the time to address this suffering and instead criticise and blame ourselves or others. This could potentially leave us feeling confused and ashamed. Shame does not heal the pain of suffering. Every human being has a need to be understood, accepted and validated because the human brain is wired to love and be loved.

Relational Counsellors

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioural or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioural therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
