I offer counselling to people who are in some sort of transition in their lives. Often people come to me when they're feeling stuck, isolated or low. I often work with people in their twenties, thirties and forties who are facing some sort of mid-life transition. You might be weighing up what is important to you, and how to take the next steps in your life. I work with people who are often from marginalised groups, for example, LGBTQ+ people and/or people from Black and ethnic minorities. You might want to find out a way to live your life that feels authentic and unblock energy to achieve your goals.

Everyone can go through a challenging time and we all do it in our own way. You might find it challenging or relieving to talk to a professional and either could work. My sessions offer a safe and non-judgemental space to explore how we both can work together so you can get the most benefit from the therapy. I believe every person deals with their situations differently and therefore I apply an integrative approach to suit your needs. Some of the various approaches I use are Person Centred, EMDR, CBT, Gestalt, Psychodynamic and more.

Welcome... there are many reasons to choose counselling; From a variety of difficulties such as anxiety, depression, bereavement, sexuality, challenging relationships and many more. Or maybe self-development goals, removing the barriers that hold you back from self-actualisation and reaching your fullest expression of yourself. Whatever your reasons for reaching out I would hold a safe and gentle space for you be deeply heard. Here you can truly be yourself without judgement, to explore or process difficult feelings, view different perspectives or options and help facilitate the changes you want to see.

Not accepting new clients
These are difficult times and if you need help, I am here. Maybe it's anxiety, depression, a relationship problem, a loss or bereavement. Sharing it and being heard without judgement, can really help. As a problem-solving counsellor I will work with you to find a better way forward. I help clients make sense of their relationships and the struggles they have had so far. Many of my clients are going though the major life events, significant birthdays, and are wondering, how did I get here? Why am I feeling this way? What does my future hold?

Sometimes life hits hard and we find it hard to cope. Sometimes everything seems to be well, and still, we are unhappy. There are times when we feel haunted by our past, and times when we just don’t understand some parts of ourselves - thoughts, emotions, or even physical pain. And we are going through increasing global uncertainty: Covid, the current political and financial situation, wars and climate change are only a few of the unsettling topic we are exposed to 24/7 - we are facing a previously unimaginable amount of collective stress, anxiety and grief.

During these difficult times of coronavirus and lockdown, I am offering sessions via the phone, Skype, and FaceTime. They are accepted methods also within the NHS, where I originally learnt to work with them. I am an integrative counsellor/psychotherapist having worked extensively in the NHS but now work privately. My background in the NHS has made me comfortable working within a multicultural context (LGBT and BME) with a very wide age group of clients (18 -90). I have also studied Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and can offer this separately.

The fact that you're here suggests a curiosity and a need to find someone to listen and to help you think about your current situation. It takes courage to reach out and connect with someone unknown to talk about feelings and emotions. Therapy offers a safe space to do so where you are met with warmth and empathy. I offer a comfortable non-judgemental confidential space where we can work together to make things better by making sense of your experiences.

I specialise in helping clients who feel stuck - in a way of being, a pattern of behaviour, a situation or with feelings they don't fully understand. I am a humanistic counsellor. Put simply, this means I work with you in a personalised, open and collaborative way, engaging deeply with your internal world. I pay close attention to what you want and help you understand, and perhaps change your relationship with, some of the obstacles that stand in your way.

I am an experienced psychologist who offers 1:1 therapy to adults and young people (16+) who present with long-standing relationship problems and emotional issues. May that be recurring difficulties with friends, co-workers or family members, unintentionally choosing the ‘wrong’ partners, or perhaps choosing not to relate at all by avoiding people all together. If such relational dynamics persist, they are bound to make us feel anxious, depressed or numb. My passion is to help others make sense of and release dysfunctional patterns in relationships, to build emotional resilience, and to have more fulfilling connections instead.

I am aware of the difficulty in making the decision to seek counselling and how overwhelming the process of finding the right counsellor can be. It can be a lonely journey when you are feeling overwhelmed, Counselling provides clients with the opportunity of having someone to explore and help to make sense of their emotions and thoughts. When we struggle with low self concept and shame, we may become stuck due to fear of being exposed (vulnerability). If this is not explored and understood its roots then it could manifest into other emotional issues such as anxiety and depression. Therapy can teach you helpful/healthy coping tools.

Sometimes feelings of being lost, angry, sad and fearful may appear without reason. Sometimes we know exactly where it's coming from. You may be seeking something, some awareness, meaning or acceptance. You could feel stuck in patterns, unable to move through them or understand where they may be coming from. Maybe it's time to tend to those parts of you that are hurting from what you've been through. To heal, we need to be seen, heard and understood in an environment that we can feel safe in. Together, we can create that and explore and process through those current and past issues.

My approach to therapy is grounded in authenticity, acceptance and creating a non-judgmental and warm space between us. I see therapy as a journey of exploration into your world, and am interested in how you feel physically, mentally and spiritually. No one understands your experiences of yourself and others better than you, and my role is to undertake that journey of exploration with you, putting the pieces back together in a way that makes sense and creates understanding. Through this exploration I aim to help you live authentically and understand what freedom and fulfilment looks like within the context of your life

FAQs - About Therapy and Counselling

How can I find a therapist in London?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
