Choosing a therapist can be a daunting process, one I believe starts with our profile picture, only then do we go a little deeper to see if they have the experience to help with what ails us. Then it is about connection that first contact, can we trust this person to hold our trauma, to hold our memories, to journey alongside us as the process of healing begins? You may want to work on a repeating pattern or an unresolved issue, not knowing where to start. You might just want someone to listen, to not judge you or shame. What ever your need, I will listen.

I am a senior clinical psychologist and psychological therapist with over 15 years NHS experience and currently work in private practice. Most of us have experienced hardship. Have you been overwhelmed with what life has thrown at you? Do you easily overreact? I will help you to develop a deep understanding of your emotional problems, to learn what has made you stuck, and how to respond more flexibly to move forward. How we think makes a big difference to what we feel and then do. I treat many problems including anxiety disorders, PTSD and depression. I have access to several psychotherapists and a health psychologist who can help.

I am a very experienced and professional therapist with over twelve thousand client contact hours behind me in individual, couples and group work. I feel my experience coupled with my life experiences makes me the person and the therapist I am today. My training in the person-centred approach (three years) and in Transactional Analysis (seven years) together with continuing professional and personal development and supervision give me a strong theoretical and experiential focus to bring to my client work. I work very much in a relational way (research indicates that the therapeutic relationship is key to positive therapy outcomes)

I have worked in mental health within the NHS for over 10 years, working with a range of difficulties including; trauma, PTSD, OCD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders and psychosis.
There may be many reasons why you are finding life more difficult at the moment. This could be longstanding problems or perhaps something you've noticed more recently. You may want to understand why this is happening to you and what has contributed to this in order to be able to make differences in how you feel or the things that you may be doing or not doing. Each person is unique and whatever may be going on, I can support you in understanding the root of these difficulties and then help to make life long changes in order for you to make the most out of your life moving forward.

Things I can particularly empathise with are (in no particular order): relationship difficulties and marital struggle/breakdown, religious and/or spiritual trauma and/or abuse, faith shift or deconstruction, struggles with meaning and purpose, psychosis and manic episodes.
Hi, I’m James, I wonder what’s going on for you. There's no wrong reason to speak to me and no wrong thing to say. Maybe things just don't feel good or you have goals but can't get there. However you find yourself at the moment, I look forward to meeting you.

My clients have presented with difficulties such as anxiety and depression, severe trauma, abuse, phobias, personality disorders, psychosis, relationship difficulties, attachment, bereavement and identity issues.
I am an integrative practitioner which means that my practice is influenced by more than one approach. In my work I focus on adapting the best-suited approach to your individual needs. This might entail helping you find coping strategies to address specific symptoms or assisting you to increase understanding of yourself and your relationships with others. I am also using DIT model (Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy) which is a 16 sessions time limited therapy aiming to identify and change unhelpful patterns affecting your important relationships and professional achievements.

These include chronic depression, extreme anxiety, relationship difficulties, psychosomatic difficulties, complex trauma, early attachment trauma, psychosis, personality disorders, & many more.
Using mental health as a catalyst for change; as an opportunity for innovation. Working in partnership with children, young people, adults, families & professionals around issues that matter to them by finding a joint focus of our work, using my own knowledge & that of the client to help them make a meaningful change in their lives. Sometimes one knows what hurts them & what they need to address; at other times, finding the focus & courage to push through can be the toughest thing. I work gently with compassion, clarity & commitment to the essential needs of all my clients.

Psychosis Counsellors

What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?

The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?

People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?

Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?

It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
