My approach draws on humanistic, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic models of therapy to help gain an understanding of your lived experience and how you make sense of it.
I believe we are all different and what is beneficial to us changes as we encounter challenges throughout life. You may suffer from emotional problems including anxiety and depression, low self worth or relationship issues, struggle with bereavement or a life transition, eating disorders, panic, anger or traumatic experiences. Your goals may include alleviating symptoms of your distress, increasing self-awareness, better coping skills, exploring past experiences or developing emotional resilience. Whatever challenge brings you to therapy, you would like things to be different going forward.

We're often led to believe that we’re lucky to live in today's world, with all its comforts and endless opportunities, and that we should therefore not only be grateful but also feel happy and fulfilled. In reality, modern life can still be hard and overwhelming and comes with its very own challenges. Therapy can help. There are many reasons why people seek out therapy. You might know exactly what it is you would like to work on, or you might feel lost, unsure where to start. Whatever it is that brings you here, I would love to work together with you to untangle your thoughts, feelings and experiences and help you find a way forward

I work eclectically and draw upon a range of therapeutic models, including CBT, ACT and CFT, EMDR and Psychodynamic and Systemic approaches.
Thank you for visiting. Seeking support can be daunting, especially when feeling vulnerable and with so many therapists to choose from. The clients I see, seek therapy for a variety of reasons, including experiencing anxiety, low mood, intrusive thoughts, obsessions, fluctuating emotions, substance or relationship issues and PTSD. I believe these difficulties often arise from things that have happened to us, causing us emotional pain, trauma or loss. I collaborate with clients to understand and unpick these patterns, empowering them to forge a new path aligned with their goals, restoring a sense of safety, control, and wellness.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
