I offer open-ended counselling using Humanistic, Psychodynamic and CBT techniques.
At times we can struggle with our circumstances and relationships. This may result in feeling confused and overwhelmed. Traumas past and present impact upon our quality of life and coping mechanisms can fail or become unhelpful. Counselling allows some time and space to focus on your issues and it can provide insight and clarity. It's an opportunity for honest open communication, without the fear of judgement and negative repercussions. This self-exploration tends to aid growth and healing, ultimately resulting in change and acceptance. I support you rather than diagnose or label, being alongside you through life's challenges.

My approach is psychodynamic and I aim to build a trusting therapeutic relationship with the children that I work with so that they are able to express themselves freely.
I am a HCPC ( Health and Care Professions Council) and BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists) registered Art Psychotherapist who specialises in working with children and young people. I provide a safe, confidential space for children to explore their inner world through art making and creativity. Children often struggle to express themselves through words. Art can act as a medium through which a child communicates their thoughts and feelings in a more natural, less direct way. These feelings and experiences can then be thought about and processed safely.

In my work, I offer a psychodynamic approach based on the understanding of the complexity of the internal world and the relational landscape of the individual or couple.
Undertaking psychotherapy can be daunting, especially nowadays, when so many different types of therapy are available. It can be overwhelming to make that decision. In my approach, I believe that each situation is unique. Through my experience of working with teenagers and their families, as well as adults in individual and group modalities and couples, I learned to develop a sensitive ear for my client’s needs. We all sometimes struggle due to external or internal pressures or a combination. However, I deeply believe that facing difficulties with compassion and an open mind can be liberating.

Using the Psychodynamic model as a basis, we can explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe environment.
At times life can be distressing or leave us feeling less able to cope. Perhaps you feel at odds with yourself; unsure of how to move forward or aware that you don't want to continue feeling as you do now.

My roots are in psychodynamic.
Hello, I am Rebecca, and I am an Art Psychotherapist and also an EMDR trainee. Together we can build a therapy to suit your needs and begin where you most feel comfortable. Art therapy provides another tool to express ourselves when words are too difficult. Using art materials whilst we speak can feel non-intrusive and help you talk about how you are feeling. EMDR can help in processing distressing experiences, loss and traumatic memories. I provide individual therapy for adults, young people and children.

There are many different reasons why people seek out a therapist. You may be dealing with difficult life events right now, or are aware that a past traumatic event is still impacting on you. You might feel a sense of unease or unhappiness that affects your relationships, or work or prevents you from getting the pleasure from life that you would wish, or find unruly emotions hard to manage. Psychodynamic therapy pays attention to the patterns that may have developed in your relationship with yourself, others, and the outside world. As we talk you may find resonances with the past, present and future hopes and fears.

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with over 10 years experience. I work full-time seeing individual adult clients (only) and I hope that my approach is experienced as warm, non-judgmental and relational. Whatever has led you to look for a therapist today, my own view is that current persistent difficulties in life have their roots in the past. And I believe that it is only by getting underneath these symptoms and trying to understand where they come from that real and lasting change can take place. But just to sit with someone who will listen attentively and without judgement can be a completely new experience for many people.

Choosing to engage with therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s important to find the right therapist for you. You may be struggling with an issue; you may find yourself in a repeating pattern of behaviour; or you may wish to explore existential issues in order to find greater meaning in your life. I offer a safe, confidential space where you can explore whatever you bring without judgement. I work psycho-dynamically. Put simply, this means that we will explore together the ways in which you have dealt with experiences and relationships in the past so that we can impact the ways in which you deal with them in the future.

Hello, I am Sabine, a Psychologist and Psychotherapist in advanced training. I believe in what the therapeutic relationship could offer: a nurturing environment where you can talk about your difficulties. This can lead you to a deeper understanding of yourself and your worries, which can be the first step for real change. My approach is guided by the “I am OK – You’re OK”: people are born OK and can re-decide their own life. I believe that a person can change their dysfunctional relational and behavioural patterns, if and when they are provided with a facilitating and non-judgemental environment. Please enquire for pricing info.

If you've arrived here, you are already thinking about counselling. You might feel depressed, anxious or overwhelmed and finding it difficult to cope with the challenges of life. Perhaps you have experienced a recent loss, had a sudden change of circumstances or are struggling with relationships. Maybe you don't even know what's troubling you. Research shows positive change happens when there is a good match between client and counsellor. It’s difficult to choose a counsellor or know what to expect from counselling without having a face-to-face meeting. This is why I offer a reduced rate intro session of £15 where we can meet

I work relationally to help clients understand how past experiences and relationships might be impacting current difficulties. Therapy can help make changes to these often hard-wired patterns and facilitate the development of more healthy fulfilling relationships. By building a relationship based upon trust, empathy and acceptance therapy enables a greater awareness and understanding of how and where difficulties have arisen and provides the conditions for change to occur.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
