There can be times in our lives when we experience distressing events or feelings which seem overwhelming. This can be due to a particular circumstance such as difficulties in our current relationships, work related stress, illness, bereavement, or dealing with painful memories from our childhood. Sometimes we have no idea what is making us feel the way we do. All we know is that life has become distressing, or even intolerable. It could be at these times a talking therapy may be a helpful option.

Ups-and-downs in life are inevitable and therapy can be a great tool to help you to understand your patterns and responses, and enable you to navigate life and relationships with balance. I offer an empathic, pragmatic and grounded place to explore yourself and what is going on for you. Together we will work on understanding and managing where you are now, build awareness of how your past might be impacting you in the present, and equip you with strategies for the future.

We all face many challenges in our lives and rather than struggle alone sometimes it can help to reach out to a safe and reliable person outside of our friends and family network to share our thoughts and feelings, talk through our difficulties and find new ways of coping and making some positive changes in our lives. I am an experienced, warm and non-judgemental counsellor who can offer to help. Whether you need just a few sessions to to focus on a specific problem or wish to explore some long-standing issues in more depth then we can do so over a longer period of time.

I feel the best thing about therapy is being seen, being held in mind, knowing that when you walk into that room you are free to speak openly in a way you may feel unable to with anyone else in your life. Whatever is behind your reason for looking for therapy now, an immediate crisis, a lack of motivation, social anxiety, relationship issues, a background or childhood that you feel may be getting in your way I hope that you will take the possibly life changing step to understand yourself more deeply.

Our Clients at The Echelon Scene are gay men who are seeking a long-term relationship. They come to us because they simply do not have the time to online date or sit in a crowded bar in Soho. They would rather outsource and have us do the filtering so they are only going out on dates they are excited about. Our Clients are typically busy individuals who are passionate about what they do and excel at work, they range in ages from 30-mid 60s and are based all over the world. The common factors are they are all genuinely seeking a monogamous long-term relationship and are in a positive state of mind for dating.

You may well be in your late 20s or 30s, feeling overwhelmed & disconnected in your relationships, career or current lifestyle. Maybe you’re experiencing anxiety & despair about the state of the world - the climate crisis, the political landscape, the “never enough” of grind culture capitalism, the multitude of oppressive systems that plague us. I’ve been practicing for 15 years and find it especially rewarding working with those who are queer, artists, activists, non monogamous, highly sensitive & those struggling with a dysregulated nervous system, anxious attachment, poor boundaries & people pleasing. I’d love to support you.

I offer a free 15 minute phone call before meeting. This gives you an opportunity to outline your current circumstances and enables me to consider whether I might be able to help you. Your first session will be an assessment where I will ask you questions to better understand your past, your present and your expectations. This session is a two-way process for both of us to consider if we might be able to work together. Any ongoing therapy will last 50 minutes and would take place on a weekly basis.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
