Are you looking for a safe space with an experienced trauma-informed therapist? I offer CBT & EMDR to mothers and parents to tackle low self-esteem, anxiety, & trauma/ PTSD. Perhaps you are having strong reactions to things, or maybe you are struggling with anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or nightmares. You might be having trouble sleeping or issues with food or body image. Maybe you feel disconnected, irritable, guilty, and not the parent/ partner/ person that you want to be. When things feel tough, working with someone who you feel 'gets it' and knowing the space is safe and free from judgement is really important.

The idea of wanting or needing emotional support may feel daunting, but the experience of receiving it doesn’t have to be. If this is your first time considering Psychotherapy or Counselling, or you’ve seen a Psychotherapist / Counsellor before, I would like the chance to listen to you. It can feel extremely difficult opening-up to a stranger, particularly at the beginning, but I hope to build your trust in me to make this easier. In return for your bravery and honesty, I can give you confidentiality without judgment.

My Clients over the last 18 years have ranged from having simple symptoms ( i.e. sleep disturbances, anxiety about interviews or social anxiety ) to severe symptoms (i.e. severe depression, insomnia, PTSD, OCD, Borderline Personality or sexual abuse). My clients are looking for tools that will help them reduce or eliminate those symptoms but they are also wanting to develop long term functional habits that will help them lead a healthier life. Most of my clients are highly functional but they are struggling with emotional issues in their relationships with childhood abuse, addictions, fears, self-esteem and others.

People at times regard seeking counselling as a weakness, however in my view it actually shows great strength to seek support when you are facing issues in your life. Having the courage to look 'inside yourself' is the first step. Working together, I will be there to provide a safe and confidential environment in which we can explore a way forward together. It is a privilege to have acquired the skills to support people who are facing challenges such as: Relationship issues; Stress; Psychological Trauma and PTSD; Anxiety/Depression; Anger issues; Bereavement & Loss; & Phobias

I work with adult clients who are struggling with various mental and emotional challenges. This includes anxiety, low self-esteem, work stress, relationship and confidence issues. Hi there! I am Amber, the Director of Healthy Mind Psychology. We aim to be a different type of practice. Our focus includes work with those people trying to cope with all the stresses and strains of unprecedented times upon us. But many struggle with issues outside of the normal narrative of mental health, or physical health too. Our practice aims to explain the stress response (whether that be from overdue bills, a critical family system, a harsh workplace, current or previous traumas, or a host of other things!) and the science behind how the mind/body interact to create physical symptoms, emotional distress, or bad habits!

I see clients from across all ages, ethnicities and with an extremely wide range of issues. I help clients to come to grips with substance abuse, depression, all forms of anxiety and much more besides. I help my clients to summon the strength to put their issues behind them. I help them to find new ways of feeling, thinking and behaving. Whatever their goals might be, I help them to realise that they're strong enough, good enough and able to achieve them. I particularly specialise in working with clients on the high functioning end of the autistic spectrum.

Do you feel that your needs aren’t being acknowledged, let alone met; that no one really listens to you? Perhaps you feel worthless, or you are unsure where to turn for unbiased support? Maybe you are really tired of the challenges of life and need a space to work through your thoughts. Or facing a life changing event and need the strength to move through it? Do you feel you have 'lost' who you truly are? We can work together to process these feelings and grow your awareness of potentially different choices moving forward. Counselling is an opportunity to regain control of your life and feel more confident in your skin.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
