To the outside observer the field of psychotherapy offers a bewildering array of approaches. My suggestion is that you don’t try to choose between them, but focus instead on the person you might work with. In many ways, your relationship with your counsellor is the key to getting the results you want. So, you need someone you can trust and be absolutely open with. Tune into your feelings. Let them to help you decide which candidates are empathic, respectful and honest. Did you feel treated as an equal? Did you leave a meeting feeling warm?
My training is in psychosynthesis, which sees psychological pain as a clash between contradictory aspects of our nature. Together we'll explore current issues and how they can be rooted in the past. We’ll look at self-limiting beliefs and behaviours that underlie low self-esteem, anxiety and a sense of meaninglessness.
What I offer is an open space for this exploration, without blame or judgement. What I hope is that by bringing awareness and understanding to our unconscious processes we can gain clarity, self-compassion and greater choice over our lives.
