Person-Centred Counselling in EX1

A very warm welcome to Lucy Perkins Counselling. I work primarily with the Person Centred approach, for a wide spectrum of issues. Our sessions are entirely led by you, we go your pace and I will hold the utmost respect for your autonomy at all times. My approach is non-directive, relaxed and supportive. Our face to face sessions take place in a private, tranquil and comfortable space in central Exeter. We can be flexible about when we meet and we may get together weekly or fortnightly. Our online session take place using the platform Zoom.

I am an experienced registered counsellor. I offer a warm, calm, confidential and non judgmental space for clients to explore thoughts and feelings. I work with a range of issues with both males, females and couples. I also work at SAFE (stop abuse for everyone) and specialise with clients, both male and female who have been through demostic abuse. Whilst I offer therapy for many issues I specialise in working with victims of domestic abuse, control issues, self esteem and lack of confidence.

As an Integrative Therapist I work with my clients using a variety of different counselling models and methods. Although I would describe myself as a person-centred therapist, my methods are client-led and not dictated by any personal preference. I pride myself on my honest, non-judgmental approach, my empathy and my ability to make genuine, authentic connection with my clients.

I have a long experience of working with people with a wide range of mental health issues. I have worked as a nurse and support worker in mental health and as a counsellor for adults. I work from the principles of the Person Centred Approach which means that I am led by what my client brings to the counselling session and uphold the belief that every individual has an innate drive to grow towards being more truly themselves, to being the best they can be. It is my job to listen without judgement, to be empathic (to strive to put myself "in your shoes"), and to be accepting of who you are in the widest sense.

I am a specialist in working with eating disorders and with all types of challenges involving food and body image. I specialise in the field of unresolved grief, loss and trauma. I use EMDR to treat single or complex post traumatic stress including combat PTSD. I also have experience of supporting the emotional wellbeing of health professionals (or other professions at high risk of vicarious trauma or chronic pressures). Over the last twelve years as a humanistic integrative counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor in a busy NHS environment, I have also experienced a broad spectrum of clients' concerns and struggles.

I am a professionally qualified Integrative Counsellor, experienced in working with young people and adults with a wide range of issues. I have a special interest in stress and anxiety, in how the nervous system works and how it impacts our mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. I use my experience as a Shiatsu practitioner and my mindfulness practice to help my clients to understand how their body and mind are relating to each other and incorporate mindfulness and relaxation exercises into my sessions where appropriate to help manage anxiety symptoms.
