I integrate parent-based intervention programmes such as NVR and SPACE in my work with families.
I am a relationship-focused therapist working with couples, individuals, and parents. By understanding our attachment style and gaining insight into how we offer and receive connection, we can grow and form meaningful relationships with our beloveds. At the heart of my couples therapy work is IMAGO Relationship therapy. Imago Relationship Therapy helps couples to identify their core needs and triggers and to communicate them to their partner in a non-confrontational and constructive way. I also integrate Terry Real's Relational Life Therapy (RLT).

I meet lots of people who tell me how they don’t feel good enough or worry that they are failing as a parent or partner.
I am passionate about supporting people to make sense of their difficulties, whether that be related to low mood and anxiety, managing big emotions or struggling in their relationships. Alongside my private practice I work in the NHS as a senior psychologist with children, young people, parents and families where there may be a history of trauma or concerns around ADHD or ASD.

Being a parent feels enjoyable again and those initial butterflies at the start of your relationship with your partner begins to re-emerge.
Right now, life is supposedly back to 'normal', however life still feels unmanageable, and those never-ending obstacles has now become more intense. You may be feeling overwhelmed with all the pressures at work, whilst trying to juggle the constant demands of being a parent. Let's not forget about the strain this may be putting on your relationships with others, and no one truly understands that things are day by day spiralling out of control for you

Life can be challenging, it can feel difficult and overwhelming. This year especially has been hard. At these times anyone can find it difficult to cope. Whether you are experiencing stress about work and finances; anxiety about the future; are feeling as if you are not doing a good enough job parenting; or if your child is experiencing distress. I can support you and your family. I use evidence based talking therapies to improve people’s mood; challenge their negative thoughts and build helpful coping techniques.

Helping children with early symptoms of the autistic spectrum has been my life’s work. My goal as the Principal of the Parent-Infant Clinic and of the School of Infant Mental Health in London is to help parents and professionals identify the early signs in autistic spectrum, for it is in these early stages, which can be seen as early as 3 months, when the greatest results can be achieved. I am a practicing adult and child psychotherapist, having worked in the National Health Service and privately for 32 years on detecting early signs in the autistic spectrum and providing early treatment to children and adults.

When your child's behaviour is challenging, being a parent can feel incredibly isolating and challenging.
Does your child challenge you? Not in the ways that others might think... Somehow their behaviour is just... different! But in ways that only you understand. Perhaps your child runs away, doesn't listen, spits, shouts, smears or has frequent "meltdowns". Or perhaps you suspect your child has a condition like Autism or ADHD- maybe they were recently diagnosed. No matter what is underlying your child's challenging behaviour, as parent myself, I want to help you reduce the behaviours so that your child can achieve their full potential!

Whether you are having momentary difficulties or are facing long-standing challenges, starting therapy can feel daunting. My approach focuses on creating a safe and supportive space to explore a range of difficulties including low mood and depression, OCD, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, eating and sleeping difficulties, as well as challenges within relationships. Other interests/specialities include racial and intergenerational trauma, difficulties associated with becoming and being a parent (including the perinatal period), as well as work-related challenges. I am now offering ADHD assessment to adults.

Parenting Counsellors

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
