Life can present us with challenges we may struggle to cope with, leaving us feeling lost and unable to engage with life in the way we want to. Therapy can provide a source of support that helps you learn more about yourself and your difficulties, increase your self awareness, and feel more empowered.

I offer a safe, sensitive, trustworthy, supportive, and collaborative space so that when we work together you might start to feel comfortable enough to talk about the things that are hindering you in life, which maybe about yourself or another that are causing you distress. Together we can find meaning and understanding to your thoughts, feelings and at times conflicting emotions. Moving closer to self compassion and contentment in life. As children the world is a different place, we see the world through a different lens and so we internalize things from a different level of consciousness. Sometimes influencing us in adulthood.

If you are reading this then you probably have a feeling that talking to someone right now is important. Therapy is a way to explore what may seem difficult in your life at this point. You may not even know what it is that feels 'off' and that's ok; therapy can be used to explore that sense of unease, or lack of connection.

I feel the best thing about therapy is being seen, being held in mind, knowing that when you walk into that room you are free to speak openly in a way you may feel unable to with anyone else in your life. Whatever is behind your reason for looking for therapy now, an immediate crisis, a lack of motivation, social anxiety, relationship issues, a background or childhood that you feel may be getting in your way I hope that you will take the possibly life changing step to understand yourself more deeply.

I am a Chartered and Registered Counselling Psychologist who adopts a pluralistic framework based on the premise that no one therapeutic approach is superior, and different clients are likely to benefit from different therapeutic methods at different points in time. The pluralistic position puts the client and their needs at the centre of therapy and is based on working collaboratively. I honestly believe that people are experts of themselves but with help from trained professionals they can have a better understanding of themselves and the reason(s) for their behaviours.

Inner conflict finds expression in many ways. I work with clients who present with a range of emotional difficulties that include: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, addiction and anger management issues. The coping mechanisms that we adopt early in life can persist well into adult life. Instead of being helpful however, these old coping mechanisms can become counter-productive, even a destructive force in our lives. Identifying and understanding the origins and dynamics of how we relate to other people, to our body and to the world around us is important if we are to make meaningful, authentic changes in our life.

We are all influenced by the people in our lives and the experiences we have had both past and present, all of which serve to shape and define us. Sometimes we need help in understanding how the culmination of these factors can get in the way of being able to live life fully and with ease. Maybe you're looking for relief from the pain of anxiety or depression. You could be struggling with life changes or loss. You may want a better relationship with yourself and/or those closest to you. I offer a non-judgemental space in which I can help you to explore your feelings, beliefs and patterns of behaviour.

There are many reasons for seeking therapy and it is a big step to ask for help. Sometimes it is about coming to terms with a life event such as a relationship breakdown or a bereavement, sometimes long standing feelings of anxiety, depression or plain unhappiness and sometimes a general sense that things are not right. The thoughts, feelings and behaviours which are causing difficulties in your daily life are likely to have their origins in the past, in patterns set up in early relationships which are no longer helpful. Working together, we can begin to make sense of your experience freeing you to live a better life.

I am an Integrative psychotherapist (MBACP) based in South West London, Fulham. I have a Masters in Integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling and I offer sessions both in-person in Fulham and via zoom. I would describe my practice as combining warmth with appropriate challenge. At times, I may do more than sit back and nod; I am not a blank slate or a traditional therapist. I believe in a therapeutic relationship that is genuine and in open and honest conversations.

My psychodynamic training takes into account the connections between the past and the present and in the frame of how we engage, things can become apparent that you may have not been aware of. The nuances of how this promotes change has been expressed by my clients. I also work as a trauma informed counsellor which has enriched my experience as a therapist. I have experience working with self esteem, anxiety, abuse and much more. There may be things from your past that you feel are stopping you from moving forward. In our sessions we can explore what you bring, what your goals are and what it would look like to achieve them.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
