Hello and welcome. Taking the first step to find the right person to talk to can take courage. Thank you for looking at my profile. I am a qualified integrative counsellor. At heart, this means offering a warm, empathic, non-judgmental and confidential space to explore any difficulties you are facing. Each client is unique and will work with me in a different way that best suits them. Counselling can be a chance to reflect on our past, to process our thoughts and feelings in the here and now, and ultimately to make choices that allow us to move forward into a future that is meaningful to us.

Considering and finding a counsellor can be an anxious time, this might be your first-time seeking help or you may be returning to counselling after a break, you may be unsure of what to look for or be unsure of what to expect from your counselling journey. As individuals we have the ability to find within us what we need to overcome and work through our problems, anxieties and stresses but for many reasons such as traumatic events, job pressures, personal or relationship issues, bereavement or loss, we lose this ability and our problems begin to overwhelm and infiltrate our lives leading us to seek help.

I work with young people and adults, In a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space, Our lives can become stressful and overwhelming at times. Life can become too much, and it can seem impossible to find peace and balance. You may have difficult feelings or past hurts that are stopping you from moving forward so you are stuck. It can be helpful to talk to a person who is not directly involved so that you can gain more insight and clarity. I can offer you a listening ear and together we can go on a journey to which we can explore your issue. You are the person who knows what is best for you but maybe I can assist you.

I know how it feels. I’ve trawled these sites looking for something that stands out, someone a bit different. Someone real. Feeling lost, feeling alone, feeling so down. Wanting to find that person I could, just perhaps, take a leap of faith with. I won’t promise I’ve been exactly where you are or where you’ve been, because I can’t. Nobody can. As humans we are all unique; each of us is a special, individual creature.

As a Clinical Psychologist, EMDR & CAT Therapist I am passionate about helping people to understand why they are struggling now. Do you find despite all your best efforts you get stuck in the same patterns of relationships? Are you trying to avoid difficult memories, and is this limiting your quality of life? Are you, at times, overwhelmed with feelings of shame, anxiety or sadness? I understand the exhaustion. Looking back together at past experiences of trauma, whether these be events or within relationships, I have hope that we can understand these current patterns and offer you the support and space to find a different path.

As your counsellor, I'm here to give you the space and time to talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, history, and experiences. This can help us learn more about who you are and most importantly, how you can find more happiness and contentment in your life. I'll be by your side as we dig deeper into understanding yourself and figuring out what's getting in the way of your goals and dreams. I've helped many people dealing with prolonged anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, OCD, low self-esteem, disordered eating, feelings of self harm and suicide and with a focus on past trauma amongst other presentations.

I try to make therapy as available to as many people as I possible can. The cost of therapy can be quite steep so I keep my prices as low as I can so that more can access it. Therapy is about getting to where you want to be by making your own unique road map, so that you can use it again in the future if need be. I'm an Addiction Psychologist by trade, with 18 years of private practise behind me, but a lot of my work is helping many different age groups with problems such as OCD and PTSD etc. Please feel free to contact me and we can have a chat to see if i can be any help to you.

Every storm will pass, but sometimes when things get tough it helps to have someone you feel completely safe with to confide in. This is your time and space to work towards reaching your true authentic self. Together we can explore at your own pace the circumstances that have brought you to counselling. This is an opportunity for self-discovery and recovery, the destination a calm peaceful mind and body. Through brave, whole-hearted reflection and a positive approach to moving forward you can leave negative issues from the past behind. Or, this may simply be the time and space you need to offload current pressures. It's your call.

Life is difficult at the best of times but we are living through exceptional circumstances at the moment, which is creating stress and anxiety in many people. Where normally you could cope with issues, the pressure now is affecting people's emotional and mental health. If you can identify with this and feel you need some extra support in the way of counselling then please contact me. Together we can begin to explore your unique situation and whatever issue you feel you need support with. This will be at your pace, in a safe and secure environment and in a non-judgemental way. You will be treated with kindness, empathy and respect.

As a counsellor, I provide a safe and confidential environment, where emotions, thoughts, and reactions can be explored. We look at the benefits of change and improved communication. I work with several presenting issues. I specialise in supporting those who wish to rebuild significant relationships. Our relationships are fundamental in how we see ourselves. My initial training was in psychodynamic counselling, working with young people and adults. In recognising how relationships impact on our thoughts, personality, and behaviour, led me to further my studies in Systemic Therapy, working with Relate and Tavistock Relationships.

I use an integrative approach as I do not believe that one style fits all. This means that I will suggest utilising the most appropriate approach according to individual needs and wants. The main approaches I work with, but not limited to, are TA (Transactional Analysis), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Humanistic Therapies. I am also a qualified Europe and UK EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) therapist, a treatment with great success for different types of trauma, PTSD, assaults, rape, phobias, illness, injury, anxiety, self-esteem, stage fright/ performance/ tests and relationship issues.

How can I find a therapist in Chelmsford?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
