I am here to listen and to support you in exploring things that are creating challenges or distress in your life. Whether you’re struggling in a relationship, feeling worried, anxious, depressed, or experiencing loss I can help. Talking to a counsellor can help to stop thoughts circling around and around to alleviate feelings of distress and support you in working towards changes you want in your life by connecting or reconnecting with your own needs and feelings. Talking to someone who isn’t connected to what’s going on means you can explore thoughts and feelings without worrying about other people’s feelings or feeling judged.

Working with people experiencing depression and anxiety, personality differences, relationship breakdown, drug and alcohol dependency and other addictions.
Speaking with someone for the first time about personal issues or trauma can feel really daunting. It is important to feel safe and not judged when talking about difficult things, and my aim is for us to develop a relationship where you can explore whatever it is that you need to. There is not an exhaustive list of the reasons for coming to counselling initially but one thing is sure and that is it begins with building trust and beginning to speak openly.

Some students are currently trying to study while experiencing depression or anxiety, or recovering from trauma or an eating disorder, while others are coping with challenges like family breakdown, bereavement or physical health problems.
I support students aged 16+, as well as adults affected by their time at school, including ex boarders. Being a student can be a hugely stressful experience. What should be an exciting and stimulating time can turn into a nightmare with low mood and self esteem; fear and anxiety. Sometimes, the impact is more subtle, and surviving difficult school experiences can force us to adapt in ways that can become unhelpful later in life. Our time at school can go on to influence us for many years to come. I have supported many adults affected by their school experiences, and struggling with the impact on their current lives.

Perhaps you want a space to explore your relationships, understand your feelings of anxiety or depression or simply a safe space to reflect. Perhaps something is holding you back and blocking or limiting your growth and expansion. Or maybe you want how you feel on the inside to match how you are on the outside; in your everyday experience.

Life can feel hard - even overwhelming at times - but it doesn't have to stay that way. Often, people find talking to someone who understands can help to shift difficult feelings and allow them to fully engage with life once more. Perhaps you feel stuck? Anxious, angry, depressed, or in emotional pain? Maybe you notice your relationships are unsatisfactory, they always follow the same pattern? Or maybe life, with all its demands, is just grinding you down? Spending some time exploring these issues with a trained counsellor can offer insight, clarity and relief.

I am a specialist in working with trauma and sexual abuse, and, consequently, have extensive experience working with complex trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, intimacy issues, shame, feeling stuck and low self-esteem.
In my practice, the therapeutic relationship is a space where difficult life experiences can be worked through. I take an integrative approach, in which I encourage you to be curious about how your difficulties relate to previous experiences and your expectations for yourself and others. This often brings up feelings that can seem unwelcome and I work with you to help you understand unwanted emotions and connect to your body. My approach aims to deepen your self-awareness in the here-and-now as this helps you to understand and feel compassion for yourself, and be okay in who you are.

There are many different reasons why people seek out a therapist. You may be dealing with difficult life events right now, or are aware that a past traumatic event is still impacting on you. You might feel a sense of unease or unhappiness that affects your relationships, or work or prevents you from getting the pleasure from life that you would wish, or find unruly emotions hard to manage. Psychodynamic therapy pays attention to the patterns that may have developed in your relationship with yourself, others, and the outside world. As we talk you may find resonances with the past, present and future hopes and fears.
