I currently focus on helping those with the symptoms of Depression and Anxiety (including OCD and PTSD/Trauma).
My focus is to support people to develop insight into the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that underpin their difficulties. You may have been feeling really low, or perhaps anxious? You might have found difficult completing the things that you used to enjoy? Or past events might be stopping you from living the life you want to live. I am passionate about CBT as it is a goal focused, collaborative, well researched and can transform people's lives. Not everyone has heard of CBT, however it has quickly become one of the most popular choices of therapy available and can help with so many life problems, including those listed above.

If you want to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships, the patterns you might find repeating, or of your difficulties, we might work well together. I specialise in identity development. I work with people who want something to be different in their life, even if they're not sure what that is yet. Maybe you have an anxiety that takes hold and limits you in ways you're sick of. Maybe you feel a deep dissatisfaction or you're living with depression. Perhaps you find yourself in relationships that hurt you in similar ways and you're wondering how that keeps happening, and how you could gain the power to change it.

Often our anxieties and difficulties can weigh us down and we are unable to find a way forward. Our thoughts and feelings can be confusing and talking to friends and relatives about our concerns may be too difficult. I provide a confidential, safe, respectful and non-judgemental space in which you can explore your difficulties, gain insight and discover a way forward. I provide a counselling relationship where you are heard, understood and accepted. This is extremely powerful because it allows you to open up and express all of your thoughts and feelings and gain a new awareness which leads to the potential for positive change.

I understand that the decision to start therapy is rarely made lightly, and taking that first step can feel overwhelming. You may be feeling apprehensive, anxious, and sceptical about sharing your innermost thoughts and emotions with a stranger. It takes immense courage to be vulnerable and talk about the difficulties you are experiencing, and I want you to know that I fully appreciate and respect your decision to seek help. You might be facing a specific problem that you want to address, such as relationship issues, anxiety. Alternatively, you may have a sense that something in your life is not quite right, but cannot identify it.

You have likely arrived here because yourself or someone you know is thinking about counselling. This can be a worrying and confusing time and you may just need information about what counselling is and how you can make use of it. I chose counselling as a career as there was a time where I felt like I had no voice. I was alone with my thoughts and feelings. Having therapy, allowed me to understand how it feels to be listened to, with no judgement or a fear of being misunderstood. It gave me time, space and the confidence to open up. I want to work with others and communicate how to work on their self-love and belief in themselves.

I am always mindful of the fact that taking the first steps towards counselling can be the hardest. Actually admitting you need some help. Finding the right person to walk with you on this journey is I believe central to the process of counselling. I am wholly committed to providing you with a safe, non-judgemental space, where you can begin to work through your difficulties. Mental health, is just like our physical health, it's variable and sometime we need help to recover, whether that be from a bereavement, anxiety, depression, long term trauma issues, etc

Are you feeling like you are: 'out of sorts', 'depressed', 'sad', 'anxious', 'lonely', 'worried', 'stressed', 'fearful' or any other description that just doesn't feel like the real you? Do you need someone to 'hear and understand' you, to help you make sense of it all. Maybe you've tried family members, loved ones and friends and now feel that you are burdening them, getting nowhere and not really able to truly open up to them for fear of being judged, shamed or shocking them.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
