Hi I’m Loz, my pronouns are they/them. I believe that to create a nurturing space where you feel safe and open to explore the challenges that have brought you to counselling, I need to be the most genuine and empathetic version of myself I can be. Sharing my humanness with you is important to me and this is what guided me to become a Person-Centred counsellor. Our sessions will be led by you, allowing you to work at your own pace, while I take a gentle and holding approach to being alongside you through your journey.

Are you questioning your career, feeling stuck in relationships, or carrying that nagging feeling something's missing? Perhaps you're navigating a major life transition, processing a breakup, or trying to find yourself again after years of putting everyone else first? If this is sounding familiar, I want you to know it doesn't have to stay this way and you don't have to go through this alone. Here's some of what we might work on: Understanding why you keep repeating the same patterns, trusting your own decisions without second-guessing everything, attracting healthier relationships and finding clarity about your career path.

You don't have to carry everything on your own. Maybe you’re someone who’s learned to cope by keeping things together on the outside while quietly struggling on the inside. Maybe parts of your past still echo into your present, shaping how you trust, relate, or see yourself, even if you don’t always name it as “trauma.” Or maybe you simply feel disconnected from who you are and tired of trying to manage it all alone. My background in community arts and volunteer work taught me to value diversity, expression, empowerment, and being heard, principles that guide my counselling approach.

I fully understand how hard it can be to ask for help, so well done in taking the first difficult step in searching for someone who will suit your needs. Everyone is entitled to reach their full potential within their own world, and I fully understand how this can be hindered by life’s events both past and present, that can result in a low self-esteem, a lack of confidence and an inability to live life to its fullest. My empathic approach will allow you to explore your difficult situation and emotions at the pace and depth you feel comfortable with, and I will emotionally support you at every step of our journey together.

Hi, I’m Bob, I’m a calm, straightforward person and I offer a supportive space to encourage you to meet your full potential, live your fullest life and ultimately be who you really are. Sometimes in life we develop patterns which, though once necessary ways of being, have now outgrown their original purpose and can begin to get in the way of us living a vibrant and authentic life. I’ll meet you as a real person and together we can build a genuine relationship where these patterns can be understood, ultimately giving you more choices over your life and a space to heal.

As a counsellor I work to increase mental wellness and decrease distress for my clients. Have you suffered trauma, grief or loss, adverse childhood experiences, or abuse. Do work/life challenges affect your day to day functioning, or cause symptoms of depression and anxiety, social withdrawal, or loneliness and isolation? Society can cause immense pressure - use of social media, comparing our lives to others, low self-esteem and confidence, negative self talk and intrusive thoughts can become overwhelming. Counselling can support you, help you heal, and provide tools to lead to a more positive outlook on life.

I am a Clinical Psychologist working in the NHS with children, adolescents and families who are experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including; mental health, attachment and parenting. Sometimes therapy involves seeing the person on their own, and other times it can involve the wider family as well. Our sessions will start by getting to know you better, and what your main difficulties are at present, in the context of your life experiences. Helping you to understand why you are having such difficulties will help us to tailor our psychological intervention to your specific needs. I will be with you every step of the way.

Hi I'm Avril, I am a warm and open person, described by many as easy to be with and talk too. I enjoy my family, animals and being out doors. I have worked on front line emergency services for over 20 years. My life experiences have given me layers of empathy and understanding of just how complicated and difficult life can be on times. Talking therapy really did alter the course of my life, I made different and healthier choices for myself, that is when I decided to go back to college and qualify as a therapist/counsellor. Talking therapy can offer you techniques and tools to assist you to gain more control in your life.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counselling

How can I find a therapist in NP13?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
