Hi, my name is Aisling. I am a registered Creative Arts Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor. We use a range of creative materials and games to communicate feelings, emotions and experiences. It’s not necessary to be “good” at art as we don’t focus on the final product. It’s much more important that you are open to the creative process. My aim is to provide a safe and confidential space for you to open up and explore your inner world; my role is to hold space for what may come up for you. I aim to meet my clients where they are; with understanding and connection.

I am here to support you with what feels most pressing in your life and current circumstances. Perhaps you are facing relationship challenges, or struggling with painful past experiences. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed and anxious in your daily life. I have experience of working with a wide range of issues like these since I began seeing clients in 2014. I've witnessed the incredible healing and growth that can happen when someone is met with empathy and acceptance in counselling. A safe, non-judgmental space can make all the difference.

Let's face it, life can be a struggle. As we do our best to navigate our way through there are times when we come to the end of our own resources. It's ok to ask for help and that might be very thing that gives you a different perspective on your situation. Your circumstances may not change but how you think about them can. You don't have to be in a crisis to benefit from counselling. You may feel that your life is not as you expected it to be. Counselling can give you the space to visualise your dreams and understand the parts that have been holding you back from living your best life.

What if. Two words that send your mind down a well-worn path. Words and images that pop into your head at any moment and no matter how hard you try to push it away you find yourself stuck; thinking, feeling and doing the same thing over and over. Maybe it’s reliving the past, maybe it’s worrying about the future, or feeling you need to do something right now or something bad will happen. “What if” is hard to live with. But when your mind is stuck in the “what if’s” your brain is telling you there is something you need to figure out, something you need to rebalance.

Are you struggling to cope with your grief and loss of a loved one? Has the death of someone near and dear to you left you feeling like you cannot go on? Has life become so difficult that your daily routines have stopped ? Do you feel like this? Do you awaken in the morning or throughout the night with thoughts racing, images flashing of what was, or what could have been? Does it feel like you have hit a brick wall, or want to curl up and hide away ? If so, I understand how you feel. I too have experienced clear loss. Or maybe it is another type of loss, like the loss of a relationship? A job? Your direction in life, Your identity ?

My passion is my work, I love being a therapist. I want my clients to feel safe, heard, seen and validated. I work with clients from many different walks of life and with a variety of issues they want to work. Fundamentally you have to understand how your experiences in life have shaped you into the person you are. Genetics, your family system, the external culture and the systems that govern your life; all play a role in how you have learned to cope and function in this world. Anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts tend to make sense when we explore our own stories. You are not broken, you are human

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
