Life can feel overwhelming, uncertain, or simply “okay” — yet deep down, many sense it could be better. Clients often come seeking relief from stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or bereavement/grief, or to navigate transitions such as relationships, parenting, retirement, or loss. Others want to strengthen communication, repair or deepen connections, or explore echoes of childhood experiences that still shape adult life. Counselling offers a safe space to reflect, recalibrate, and reconnect — helping you build resilience, find clarity, and move towards greater fulfilment and self‑understanding.

My career within a transpersonal frame has focused on creating a safe space for those seeking support, using action methods and expressive therapies to facilitate insight, empowerment and healing. Do you feel like you are carrying the weight of the world on your own? You might be the person everyone relies on, but inside, you feel exhausted, anxious, or running on empty. It’s hard to admit you are struggling when you are used to being the one who "just gets on with it." Perhaps you lie awake at night overthinking, or feel a constant sense of dread. You might also notice you are turning to alcohol, gambling, or other habits to numb the stress, and worry these mechanisms are taking control. You want to feel calm again and regain control over your life, but you don't know how to stop the cycle

Like many of my colleagues, I became a counsellor following a successful previous career. I spent many years as an architect, before taking a stroke in 2008 and decided to retrain, bringing a rich and varied life experience to my counselling work, along with a long held interest in the psychology of ‘why we do what we do’ and a desire to really listen and help you on your journey; despite the difficulties you are facing.

Thank you for viewing my profile. Choosing the right counsellor is an important step, and it’s important that you feel understood and supported. You may be feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or anxious. Perhaps you appear to be coping externally, while internally experiencing burnout, stress, low mood, or disconnection. I often work with people who are high-functioning on the outside but feeling increasingly overwhelmed, burnt out, or emotionally drained underneath. I also support people navigating low self-esteem, neurodivergence, chronic illness and the emotional impact these experiences can have on daily life and relationships.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
