Maybe you feel stuck, or life feels overwhelming. Perhaps there's something in your past you would like to make sense of, or a situation that is troubling you now. You long for someone to listen to your story and to "get" you. To journey with you as you make sense of what has happened, or is happening to you currently. Or you would just like to feel better! Most of all, you just want to move forward, to have peace. To hope again. I will hold that hope for you as we journey together. I offer a safe space to process, as well as a warm and empathetic presence. My goal is for you to feel seen, valued and find healing.

There are times in everyone’s life when you can feel or begin to recognise that you may not be living your life to your own personal potential. It might be something that happened in your past is still unresolved. You may feel like your life is out of balance, and is not functioning as you would like it to in the 'now'. You may be unsure about how to move forward into your future. You may be navigating a life landmark such as ending a relationship or processing a bereavement. You may lack belief in your own brilliance leading to low self-esteem. You may be struggling to handle intense emotions and/or unhelpful behaviour patterns.

Adults, children and adolescents all need a space to explore and express their experiences, and for some this tends to be more difficult as they struggle to understand what they're feeling, never mind find the words to describe them to someone. People often find that when they voice their experiences, feelings, and worries, and confide in a professional who can offer support and help them make sense of these, they feel heard, understood, and often a little lighter from sharing the weight of these. I aim to help my clients to feel that little bit lighter.

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.
What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.
When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.
How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
