People come to be because of my experience working with feelings of sadness, depression , anxiety, emotional distress, domestic abuse and relationship difficulties.
I am one half of Different Therapy; distinct, individual, diverse - we celebrate the difference in our clients. My passion for counselling comes from a time when I benefited from the support of a wonderful counsellor as I struggled to make sense of situations in my personal life. Childhood family issues have a way of coming back on us as we move through adult life. I will offer you a safe space to explore whatever it is that brings you to counselling. I will meet you where you are now and go with you on your journey. I will help you reach your goals, feel better within yourself and learn to love all of your parts.

Areas of Speciality: Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Depression , Anxiety, Trauma, Bereavement, Physical/Sexual Abuse, Mental/Emotional Abuse, Self Worth Issues, Addiction.
After my first assessment I will work closely with my client to decide on the best form of therapy for them and decide the way forward together. I have had a passion for helping others my entire life and began counselling in 2010. My own past has only served to deepen my desire to help as I can deeply empathise with those who need it most. I believe that no one should suffer in silence and I work hard to try and guide clients to their own answers. When someone feels lost they then become confused and this is a very lonely place to be. I base my work on clearing the mist and helping clients find the answers.

Clients I work most successfully with have a desire to sort out relationship(s), present or past. They will be open to discover their own needs, issues and aspirations and to own these and, if a present relationship, to enter into mutual understanding of what each can bring to and gain from that relationship. They will find the possibilities of change from attitudes and thought patterns created by or brought into the relationship. Other clients will bring an openness to discover why and how their issues, grief, fear, loneliness, low self worth or anxiety/ depression have formed and engage in the journey to wholeness.

I have worked extensively with adults, with a variety of issues and I specialise in working with anxiety and depression which can leave people feeling powerless, frustrated, angry and unfulfilled leading to emotional distress and behaviours such as putting yourself last and comparing yourself to others.
Have you wanted to change things in your life but don't know where to start? Do you have difficulty dealing with your thoughts? Do you feel shame or guilt often? Are you self- critical? I work with people to support and empower them to understand what's going on for them, identifying what may help them to enjoy life again. For some that may be gaining self-confidence, feeling less stressed/anxious/stuck or simply better sleep . Counselling can feel scary but can be the first important step in investing in yourself. I will move at your pace, offering a non-judgemental, calm, kind space for you to explore what's challenging you.

I have experience of working with depression , relationship issues, anxiety and bereavement, as well as working with suicidal thoughts and self harm.
If you are in the process of considering counselling/psychotherapy then finding the right therapist is the most important decision to make. Research shows positive therapeutic outcomes are based on the relationship between therapist and client. A good way of assessing if we can work well together is attending a free of charge session; no commitment beyond this, to see if I can help you to identify further what your needs are.

Have you been struggling with how you feel? Maybe it is anxiety, depression , or a general emptiness in life. Would you like to better understand what is driving these feelings? Do you need the opportunity to be listened to, understood, and heard? We rarely get this in our lives, however counselling can provide this. Counselling creates a safe space where you will be able to share with me what is happening in your life. I can offer you a compassionate, attuned, and sensitive relationship where we can bring awareness to the source of these feelings. Through this awareness, understanding and acceptance, change happens.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Belfast. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
