Are the things that are hard in life at the moment getting in the way of the life you want to live? Are your usual ways of coping with difficulties no longer working for you? Are you ready to explore your feelings and why you act and react in certain ways? It can be hard to know if it is the 'right' time to begin therapy especially if you are new to this type of support, but if you answered yes to these questions it could be time to think about support through therapy. Together we can find a way to help you or your loved ones through what is difficult right now. Change is hard, but you don't have to do it alone.

Everybody needs to be really heard and understood. Counselling with me, someone entirely outside your social network, means you can unburden freely, knowing I'll truly listen and be on your side. If you’re struggling with a painful loss, life transition or any other challenge and are feeling miserable, anxious, angry or confused, I can help you detangle ideas, learn to manage feelings and decide if, or what, you want to change. I can support you to recover your confidence, optimism, sense of self and direction. I'll help you to recognise and build your strengths and resources, including those you perhaps aren’t aware of right now.

Do you feel overwhelmed, weighed down by feelings of low mood and anxiety? Come talk to me, and together we will work on strategies and tools that will allow you to address the root causes of the difficulties you are experiencing. My favorite thing about counselling is having the privilege to go along with a client on their journey and see them grow and develop as the weeks go on, witness them making the changes they need in order to improve what initially brought them to counselling.

Hi, I’m a psychotherapist (BscHons) with a Master’s degree in Social Work and over two decades of experience walking alongside people on their journey towards self-understanding and growth. But beyond the qualifications, I bring something just as important to the therapy room: real, lived experience. I know first that life isn’t always straightforward, and therapy isn’t a quick fix—but if you’re willing to stick with it, deep, lasting change is absolutely possible.

Are you struggling to cope with a significant event or change in your life? Sometimes trying to navigate through life alone can be confusing, and speaking to friends and family can often be too difficult. Talking to a neutral counsellor can provide you with the support you need. I have worked as a counsellor with Cruse Bereavement, helped navigate suicidal ideation in Pips, and completed Relate training to help with relationship difficulties and better understanding of emotions and old relational patterns. I am an integrative therapist and a member of BACP.

I’m an integrative counsellor with over 15 years’ experience supporting people through a wide range of challenges. I can also work with issues around sex and pornography, alcohol, drugs, and other behaviours that can start to impact relationships and everyday life. Sometimes people come to counselling because of something happening right now — maybe relationship struggles, or feeling overwhelmed by emotions and behaviours that are hard to manage. Other times, it’s about difficult experiences from the past that still feel very present and hold you back.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
